Expectations and needs change, and I agree with you, DVD is old and busted and can't provide the level of detail we need from analog anime. It's also because we own BD players and large TVs, so buying a DVD that's immediately shown for its visual limitations feels like a step backward and a waste of time and money. Even just 14 years ago, a DVD was cutting edge technology for consumers.

I suppose it's unfortunate that we're not getting it on BD, but it appears that Robot Carnival doesn't have a Blu-Ray release in Japan, so expecting one here is pretty much beyond the realm of possibility. I don't imagine anyone wants Discotek to digitally upscale the movie themselves.

VHD85 and VHD:B don't have a Japanese BDs, so it's not improbable that a Western company could have one made. Of course, either VHD is more of a guaranteed sell than some offbeat music anthology. Still, I await the day this, Neo-Tokyo, and Twilight Q get some love.

The special was actually one of my favorite things from the franchise (which isn't something I can say happens very often), really glad they got that too! Now when it comes out I'll have the whole franchise, since I bought the movie on BD a few years back from Japan. However, if Discotek gets the film too I probably won't get it since my Japanese BD already has English subs and the Discotek version would essentially be the same thing since they aren't into dubbing things and that would be the only reason to double dip.
