I'll admit that this was still much more fun to watch than yet another character introduction.

Another good review but I want to point out that we did get something of a new character introduction: the one with horns. And it looks like much of the fun is going to come from her/it.

While the review asserts the show doesn't push the story forward at all, I'm not so sure. Ignoring the demonic figure responsible for Aizawa's Alice in Wonderland impression, there's still the problem (should the story choose to acknowledge it) that Asahi's plan seems to dig the hole of his long-term problem deeper. The more acrimony there's believed to be between the leaky basket and the tiny alien, the more difficult is for them to be seen interacting without arousing suspicion.

I rescind my previous comment.

When this episode started, I was a little annoyed that they were switching the order of events again. I had no idea how they were going to make this episode funny without (manga)spoiler[Shishido's ero comedy, and porn obsession].

I was so very wrong to doubt this show. This episode was friggin' hilarious. As soon as it was over I went back and watched the whole exchange in front of the nurse's office a second time. That bit had me rolling. Twice.

The "demonic figure" is an odd case. This episode is a combination of Chapters 13 and 66-67 of the manga. That character is introduced between those chapters, but since she hasn't appeared in the anime yet (outside of the OP), they toned down her role. In the original manga, she's openly trolling Asahi and Aizawa with the size-change thing; the anime turns it into subtle manipulation, which also serves to foreshadow her larger role later in the story.

Chapter 13 also featured heavily another character who hasn't been introduced in the anime yet, so adding in Chapters 66-67 allows Mikan to play the role vacated by that absent character and add the danger of being caught back into the plot.

As for Asahi taking the metaphorical bullet, look at it this way: reputations can be repaired, even if it takes a lot of time and effort. But if Aizawa had been caught, that would have been the end of it. So even if him getting beaten up and having his reputation tarnished seems harsh, it's still the preferable outcome.

That's the great thing about Japanese schools. They are either filled with supernatural beings or harems (sometimes both). I wish I could attend one. I'd get to run to class every day with toast in my mouth and call everyone "Baka". The only downside is if someone splashed water on me I'd get very sick (or turn into something else). Laughing

Better yet, you could combine ero or baka with everybody's name for results that are always hilarious:

ero-and-bakaway
Bakacon
Erocon

... ooh, that last one works particularly well. Maybe I'll change my name.

Also, I shudder to think what would happen if you had water splashed on your face while someone was talking about you behind your back. How do you say 'epidemic' in Japanese?

mostly harem + ecchi.. a common trend..

this series reminded me of two other series.. similar but different.. but both have vampire and school (shounen series)

Karin and Rosario

Karin is a romance series .. vampire and human

Rosario is an ecchi series-- a human guy in a school of monsters and bunch of girls falling for him.. and some action..

This series has the potential to be something special, but it needs to take the training wheels off first.

Nice review, but I wonder why no mention of the introduction of Shirigami's sinister father and unappealing henchman into the story? Lots of potential there.

Who voiced Shiragami's dad?

He sounded a bit like Koyama Rikiya, but I'm not certain.

According to this very site, it is in fact Koyama voicing Genjirou. Honestly though, as a Tokusatsu fan, I'm more amused that Mao Ichimichi (Gokai Yellow) is playing Akane.

Don't hold your breath...having read as far as the scanslations go on the manga, I can tell you that every single classic vampire weakness is played for comedy in this series, to the point where Youko's mother occasionally threatens her husband with a stake and mallet when he causes too much trouble. Just remember that the show is a comedy with romance elements, because there's no way they're going to introduce something that will actually hurt the female lead for real.

I will say, my personal favorite is (manga spoilers?) spoiler[ how Youko can enter buildings without permission, but feels incredibly guilty about it. Though the fact that being on or in water makes her nervous and causes her to make cute little "Wow..." noises also amuses me.] I'm eager to see how Yuu Serizawa handles that.

[EDIT: Spoiler tags added. Even though these are relatively innocuous details, they're still spoilers. - Key]

Another obvious solution overlooked just from Shirigami being silly.

If none of those happened to work couldn't she just tell the school that she suffered a skin condition that required her to stay out of the sunlight? One of my sisters actually had that for a while. And she is not a vampire. That I know of.

"A fun little romp" is exactly how I'd describe this series at this point. I've gotten more laughs out of it than anything since Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun.

I can't think of any elements of vampire lore that wouldn't either make Youko less sympathetic or in a mortal danger, neither of which would seem to fit the show's tone. I can't help but think it's better if things continue the way they have. Plus, it'd undermine the theme the show has on the topic of stereotypes if some of them ended up right on the dot.

I thought about parasols too. However, based on details littered throughout the show we can deduce that it takes place in 2011, a full two years before their invention by Sir Herbert Parasol.

Actually, though, I'm a little surprised it never came up as a form of mobile shade during Aizawa's training. I guess it fits both of the characters though, that they never came up with it. Shiragami's rather dense at times and Aizawa has a one-track mind, so once she came up with a solution it became the solution.
