I finished Jojo Part 3 Egypt Arc and thought it was really disappointing, so much that I'm even wondering whether I want to watch part 4 or not. I've heard it's better than part 3, but that's not too much of a bar to me now.

I only really liked about 3 of the new Stand users, the only characters I liked were Polnareff and Joestar, and Jotaro was just awful all around. That he's still hanging around on Part 4 is a real turn off for me.

Give it a shot. The plots are more interesting in my opinion, even if the scale is lowered from previous parts. For one, the stands and ensuing battles (occasionally just conflicts similar to the D'arby fights as some stands are more complicated than simply being powerful) are way more engaging. The protagonists are more interesting than in Stardust Crusaders, with each character having their own sets of personalities and goals unique to themselves (I felt like only Joseph, Polnareff and Iggy were interesting in Part 3, with Jotaro's lack of personality having its occasional moments like with D'arby. Kakyoin was wasted and Avdol might as well have stayed dead the first time). Most importantly, the villains (less villains and more antagonists by circumstance) each have their own different reasons for coming into conflict with the protagonists. It's not just "Dio said I should kill you so I will!" It's instead, "My daddy needs a stand-user to get better so I'm going to attack everyone with a stand-giving-arrow until I find the right stand!" or just a stand-using delinquent down on his luck!

The best thing about Part 4 to me is that each fight has a reason to happen that helps either the protagonists or antagonists (Sometimes both) grow. While the main plot may meander, the personal growth never stops. Some of my favorite episodes are the ones where fighting is kept to a minimum. Josuke's bonding with Grandpa Joseph is especially sweet.

Anime I finish this week:

3x3 Eyes Seima Densetsu - It was good to see what happen after episode 4 of the last OVA series. While the animation was good, I really wish they didn't make each episode be 45 minutes long. The pacing felt rather slow at times and the ending did suck. The anime leaves yet another cliffhanger seeing that the manga was still being published during the 1990's. I feel like that they should have created their own ending for the anime instead creating another cliffhanger. The character relationship between Yakumo and Pai is great always. I love these two character and seeing them together is always great in my opinion.

Seeing that the anime ended 14 years ago in 2002, they can easily make a new 3x3 Eyes anime now that covers the compete story. I also feel like Ajin: Demi-Human was inspired by the 3x3 Eyes series because I notice some similarities between the two. Overall, I like the first four episodes of 3x3 Eyes better but it was still decent. Grade: B-

Space Patrol Luluco - I only seen Inferno Cop and Kill la Kill from Trigger, so I didn't know much about the show going in. The anime is very funny with a good cast of characters. I feel like I would like the show more if each episode was 20-30 minutes each. I didn't like the 6 minute run time that the show had. The short run time that both Inferno Cop and Luluco had reminds me of the short run time that Adult Swim shows have. Besides the short run time, I did had a lot of fun watching the show. The animation is great with a great use of colors and the humor is pretty solid. I also like the crossover episodes from Trigger's other anime series. I didn't love it as most people did, but I still enjoy it. Grade: B

Psycho Diver: Soul Siren - I always wanted to check out this anime for a long time seeing that it was only released on VHS and never on DVD. This anime is enjoyable to watch but could have been better. The anime is from Mad House and old school Mad House always made my favorite type of animation. Animation that is very dark and gritty looking. The animation style in this anime reminds me a lot of Wicked City and Ninja Scroll which is awesome in my opinion. The animation is great and really capture the mood that this anime was going for. Dark, violent and gritty. The story is pretty interesting with the idea of a person that can enter the mind of other people. This anime came out before The Cell, Paprika and Inception. However Psycho Diver does suffer from having weak character development and there are things in the story that didn't much sense. However the action was pretty good and all the action scenes are well animated. The ending did left things open and suffers from what most old OVA's had by trying to kick off a series (See Black Lion, Cybernetic Guardian, Kimera and Ayane's High Kick). Overall Psycho Diver is a fun anime to watch. Not great or terrible, just an enjoyable anime with a cool premise and good action scenes. If you want to watch a fun anime to pass off time, give it a watch. Grade: B-

I managed to finish The Galaxy Railways and although I have a few problems with it most of the time it was pretty enjoyable, first I'll start with one of the things I didn't like which was the a lot of episode in the first half were mainly compiled with Manabu rushing in, doing something reckless and silly but still saving the day and not getting reprehended at all although he did at some point (to which at found myself quietly whispering finally...) and although only slightly he did seem to mature a little after that.

To be honest to parts I most enjoyed were 1 or 2 episodes featuring a character of the Sirius Platoon whether it was a back story or more of a side story especially spoiler[Bruce's which was quite a heartfelt one and it was sad the way he died by himself as I'd just come to really like him as a character]

Before go onto the ending I just like to say that I really like the soundtrack music used throughout the show and even though some a lot of it was reused it always seemed to fit in well with said episode and never felt like it was distracting or pulled me away from what I was supposed to be watching

The ending of the show felt quite messy to me (spoiler[still don't know how Louis seriously managed to survive that explosion] EDIT: and it felt like the queen of the enemies spoiler[was taken out way to easily after everyone had been struggling against her] but I did like the fact that the other platoons featured in the final episode and the show wrapped up well enough with most attempted explanations to most of my questions (whether I understood them is a completely different matter) so I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone but it wasn't too bad

OK, so what does if for me is my feeling that the ending is a bit underwhelming. Really, the alleged antagonists really needed much more character development than what they actually got. I really did want to rate this series higher. I think that the key to enjoying this series is being able to suspend disbelief about a steam locomotive (with an atomic reactor?!) travelling through outer space (personally, I think that it is a rather cool concept!).

At the start of it I just said ok its not meant to be realistic so I didn't let much bother me but as it went on even though it's a sci-fi type anime I felt it was a little too lax with it's sense of realism

I am watching Baldr Force EXE.
It is one of the shows that I watched so long ago that I have forgotten everything about it and I am watching it again so that I can rate it.

I have watched the first half of this four episode OVA and I really do not understand the story.
It seems that some people are fighting some other people and probably some other people and possibly some other people, for some reason.

They are fighting in a virtual world but their real bodies are being killed, and I do not understand why.
In Sword Art Online that happened because some psychotic mad scientist secretly made the interface hardware capable of killing the users, but that would not work here.
One of the groups is a UN anti-terrorist force, one is a technology company that makes the hardware, and the others are the type of hackers and crackers who would know everything about their equipment.
Maybe something in the second half will explain everything.

I like enough of the characters to keep me interested, but really the best thing about the show so far is the opening song by KOTOKO.

I have now finished Baldr Force EXE and the second half did not answer the questions that I had. It actually left me with even more questions.
But I am still rating it Decent because some of the characters and the action made it reasonably entertaining, even if a bit nonsensical.

So things I watched this week and what is likely my last post here as I do the laughter of Diablo from Predator (oh Ghost from Predator 2, why you no laugh after Danny Glover maimed you? You're easily the third best in the franchise after Wolf and Mr. Black!).

-Gundam Build Fighters Try: Island Wars: AKA Bandai wanted to remake the last episode of the first series with the Try cast. Boy howdy this was boring as hell until the actual battle. I'd complain more except there is little to go on, a non-SD version of Superior Dragon from SD Gundam Gaiden goes nuts, particles go everywhere, and petitgguys apparently have kangaroo pouches with popsicles and rocket spears*. Very little happens beyond some half attempted easter eggs and stretched cartoony bits so far it is eye rolling. Yeesh. Also, space colonies in this universe have their age of consent as low as 13, not that I'm complaining, I'm just beating tumblr to the punch. So yeah, good OVA, but barely, they needed Tryon 3 to come back. I don't know, I might have been less harsh if they bothered using the Panda Petitguy Mirai clearly had on her table, I am actually considering getting one. Sad

*Which I found out later on the Gundam wikia is Barbatos Gundam's main weapon to do sinister evil acts with, another notch on why IBO is so terrible and this time it includes being literally forgettable

-Midori: The Camellia Girl: AKA one of those OVAs know for being gory as hell. Was it? Only if you're that easily squimish, it's a rarity to see gore porn fail so hard it's laughable whether it is under the delusion puppies are more fragile than egg shells or getting organ colors wrong without even getting blood right. Top that off with some of the worst animation to come out of the 80s (even Machine Robo did better than this!) and you have something hilariously inept. "Please feel bad for this girl we're breaking oh boo hoo" how about you put effort into your production design and writing, I can stomach gore more than normies and am unphased. I'll give this anime a little credit though, I do consider better than a lot of trash like Utena, Luluco, Southern Cross, Nodame Cantabile, or Mai Hime simply based on the fact it has decent pacing and actually put SOME effort into its atmosphere. Not a lot, but enough.

-Jin-Roh: It was fantastic! It may have been a little slow on the pacing and could get pretentious, but compared to the animation, atmosphere, music, and action? This is a winner! Why is it Mamoru Oshii was so bad with Patlabor yet everything else he touches is amazing? No wonder /a/ and /m/ like this guy so much, he's extremely competent when given serious stuff.

This is an interesting contrast. The pensive, often foreboding style that is Oshii's forte is as much on display in his Patlabor contributions as in anything else on which he left his mark—even darker films such as Jin Roh. Which Patlabor works grated with you, out of interest?

I am watching Ghost Talker's Daydream as part of an effort to reduce my backlog by watching some of the shorter shows.
After seeing three of the four episodes I am enjoying it quite a bit.

It has more humor and less violence than I had expected, both of which are good for me.
It has a lot of fanservice, which I did expect and which is also good for me.

The third episode is the first of a two-part story, so I am looking forward to watching the last episode. I hope to get to that later this afternoon.

I have now finished it and I enjoyed it enough to give it a Good rating.
And this OVA does make me want to read the manga, so it did its job in that respect.

Every entry that wasn't the third movie since that one actually stuck to the crime genre decently (I mean it is supposed to be a cop franchise).

About as much as You're Under Arrest was. It was primarily a comedy with mecha and a cast of characters. The cop part was very minor and used to hang the plots on. To the extent that the first two movies were more serious, they were examinations of Japanese culture and politics.

The third movie was simply set in the Patlabor world and had little to do with the franchise.

Anime I finish watching during this weekend

Otaku No Video - I haven't seen this anime in almost a decade and I got my Blu-Ray copy of the anime recently. So I decided to watch it and I still enjoy it. I'm not too crazy about the live action parts of the anime but I found them interesting. What made the anime so much fun to watch today is the characters and the humor. The characters are enjoyable and the humor was funny. I feel like that this anime is very relevant today and the only thing that feels dated is some of the pop culture references. The references of animation cels will probably make newer anime fans confuse seeing that they are so used to having animation be digital these days and probably won't know what animation cels are. Overall, Otaku No Video is a lot of fun and can be rather educational seeing that it explores the realm of Japanese nerd culture. Modern anime day fans may view this anime as nothing special seeing that we have anime like Genshiken now. I suggest checking this anime out for any old school anime fan. Grade: B

Strait Jacket - I never seen this anime, I only remember the ads for it on Sci-Fi back in 2008 or 2009. Personally I really enjoy this anime a lot and I'm glad that I bought it on DVD. Strait Jacket is no masterpiece, but I felt like the story and action are pretty well done. Reiott Steinberg is a very cool main character and Steven Blum's voice really work for his character. I also like Isaac Hammond and his rivalry with Reiott was pretty cool. The other characters could have been better, but I still enjoy the supporting cast. The animation is solid and still looks nice even 9 years later after it was release. All of the action scenes are great and nothing in this anime was boring. Another thing I like about this anime is the world that the characters live in. I like the idea of advanced technology gives birth to the mythical power of sorcery and they use old fashion armor suits to fight against demons. This anime was like Witch Hunter Robin meets Tekkaman Blade.

My biggest issue with this anime was that it seems there was a lot of back story, but it was barely talked about. The last episode left things open for more episodes and it never happen. I would like to a proper conclusion to this anime but I doubt it will happen. Overall, I really like Strait Jacket and I recommended checking it out. Grade: B+

I am watching Cosplay Complex because it is one of the shorter shows that I saw over ten years ago and need to watch again so that I can rate it.
Given my tastes and the nature of this show I am really surprised that I did not get back to it sooner. I guess that I just kept forgetting about it.

After watching two of the three episodes I consider it to be decent, but not much more.

The most interesting part of watching it is identifying the cosplay. I do not know if they are all "real" anime and game characters but I have recognized enough that I think that they probably are.
Hand Maid May was obvious even before the pervert tried to connect his USB cable to her.Smile

The high school girl with the Lolita complex was a but creepy. What happened to her in the second episode was nice, in a perverted yuri kind of way, but she might be going back to creepy again.

As you might expect there is a lot of fanservice. Most of it is rather mild but there is also some full nudity.

Later:
Now that I have finished the last episode I will be giving Cosplay Complex a Decent rating.
It was definitely not a waste of my time, and it was some good fun and fanservice, but it was not anything special either.

The best part of the show for me was the cosplay. It does seem like they are all authentic characters from other anime and games.
There is even a "Cosplay 101" identification guide in the extras. I was pleasantly surprised by how many of the characters I had correctly identified.

I remember seeing it on the old SciFi channel! I liked it and was surprised that that the ANN reviewer panned it.

Battle Skipper is another old show that I am watching so that I can rate it.
After watching two of the three episodes it is on the high side of Decent. The last episode could bump it up to Good, or not..

Most of the characters are high school girls and the character designs are by Takashi Kobayashi who also did the designs for Angel Tails, Hand Maid May, and Magikano, so there are a lot of nice things for me to look at.
That is somewhat diminished by the fact that the video on this DVD is not very good. It looks like it might be a VHS transfer. But I will try not to let that influence my rating.

I think that the story is not intended to be taken seriously, and looked at that way it is reasonably entertaining.
They give a logical explanation for why a beginner can pilot a mecha, and a plausible reason for one of the girls being tricked by a male antagonist.

I have finished it and decided to leave the rating at Decent.
It definitely was not a waste of my time, but it was not quite entertaining enough to bump up the rating.
The way that it ended was reasonably conclusive but still makes me think that they had planned to make more episodes. Apparently it was not popular enough, or the toys that they were selling were not popular enough.

In trying to decide if I'm going to buy the Code Geass BDs coming out this November I decided to rewatch the show. I haven't seen it in something like 6-8yrs (?), so my memory is hazy and I'm curious whether my feelings towards it will change. I remember, really enjoying it at first but getting progressively frustrated as the show went on. I've seen 5 episodes so far and I'm loving it. Both Lelouch and Suzaku are hilarious with their childish whims. They are both idiots, but my reaction towards Suzaku is still the same as before; distaste for his Lawful Neutral tendencies and his hypocrisy spoiler[(hates violence, bloodshed and discrimination but supports the very people who perpetuate it)]. The irony that he pilots a mech called spoiler[Lancelot is quite delicious. He is a (idiot) white knight in service of oppression.]

I'm also cracking the wrapping on my never opened Bandai Anime Legends DVDs. It'll be good to find out if the DVDs have any issues as many Bandai discs did. The 2.0 audio sucks so far, so without a doubt the new BDs will improve on that. The picture quality is pretty good so far for DVD.
