Farewell, Wii Hardly Knew U:

Quote:
Nintendo only showed the touch screen-sporting controller when unveiling the console, confusing folks as to whether this was a standalone platform or just an accessory for the Wii.

When companies show off a new product at a convention or trade show, I wonder if they've ever thought the attendees are just stupid when they see the looks of confusion from them while demonstrating its capabilities, like "Man, these consumers are clueless! Don't they understand how this product works at all? It's innovative and effective, and all they're doing is scratching their heads!"

I have to agree that the Wii U does have some fantastic games, but it's been unfortunately remembered more for its poor reputation than what it's offered thus far.

Blaster Master: The hidden text you put there reminded me of the big difference between the stories for the Japanese and U.S. versions of the original Master Blaster (aka Chô Wakusei Senki Metafight). The U.S. story was definitely ridiculous and most people would say the Japanese version has the authentic and canon story (it does technically in the manual), but the original story was full of typical plot elements seen in science fiction anime, which hadn't really caught on here yet at the time (it was the tail end of the 80s when this came out after all). Regardless, Master Blaster is much beloved, so another entry in the otherwise short series might grab some attention.

Tyranny: Games where you get to be the bad guy, antagonist or general dark ruler do have that unique appeal. Sure there are games where you start neutral or good, and have the option to become evil or chaotic, but having an entire game where you are by default bad, and can never be good, is certainly interesting.

Dishonored 2: I love the idea of playing as Emily, but her kit really isn't suited for a stealthy game, most of her ability reveled her so getting perfect stealth run is going to be almost impossible compared to Corvo so I'm a bit unsure what I want (maybe wait a while, somebody might make a mod on PC where you can play as Emily with Corvo's kit).

Tyranny: The basic gimmick is a bit meh for me since I highly doubt you'll really be the bad guys, its almost certainly going to be more of the same with good, bad, neutral action. Maybe if the evil choice are really interesting (ie not being evil for the sake of being evil).

Watch dog 2: Meh, the first game had a cool idea with the hacking system, but went on to not use it because Aiden also just happen to be a master close quarter combat specialist and an incredible shooter who could survive hundreds of gun shoot, why even bother with the hacking?

and it's continued to hurt the game everywhere outside of the most hardcore of the FGC.

snd even then, it ahs hurt thema lot with the hardcore ones, if you are from the usa, sure, the hardcore comunity supports it, but the hardcore fgc from other countries also supports other games, like kof14, blazblue, etc... even the retro ones.

The thing that makes Corvo being voiced even better
is them getting Stephen Russell, voice actor of the original Garrett to voice him (a big F U to the joke that was the Thief reboot).

The WiiU showed a bit of hope upon the early days of its debut. Alas, Nintendo's poor marketing of the console and third-party companies jumping ship led to it having a sluggish start with its sales. I hope the Nintendo Switch won't find itself suffering from the same problems the WiiU did.

Unfortunately, the problems that would come to plague the Wii U were clear from the start. Nintendo only showed the touch screen-sporting controller when unveiling the console, confusing folks as to whether this was a standalone platform or just an accessory for the Wii.

So I guess I was one of the chosen few in the world to notice the actual console under the TV at first glance to get the message when watching the conference live.

and again....

Much like the SNES/Super Gameboy and Gamecube/Gameboy Player, Nintendo could have tapped into 3DS popularity by letting the Wii U play 3DS games, now that they finally had a console equipped to handle 2 screens. Yet they completely ignored that option for some reason, thus never giving me a reason to get it.

The Wii couldn't play DS games, The Gamecube couldn't play GBA games, don't know to what benefit doing that would've served.

The GameCube actually could play GBA titles if it had a Game Boy Player attached to it.

Splatoon is a game that defied all odds: It's on a system that didn't sell that well, it's an original franchise, it's of a genre the game industry is already saturated with, and itmanaged to win Best Shooter of the Video Game Awards 2015 when up against four very hyped AAA titles. It's also a game I didn't expect to like quite as much as I do.

I wonder if Splatoon will be like Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64: A game well-received, but doesn't really take the world by storm until a near-launch sequel.

The Wii was in a rather unique situation in that much of the expanded audience either hadn't played video games before or hadn't played video games in a long time. Someone used to video games will know that game systems go through generations incompatible with each other (and that goes for PC gaming too). Someone who isn't won't know that. Few other electronic appliances are like that, and the ones that do have much longer generation cycles than video game systems. Nintendo's people probably thought naming it after the Wii would bring in the Wii crowd with brand name recognition, only to see it backfire when they misinterpreted what it meant.

Even now, you can migrate all your data from one mobile device to another. The copy of Angry Birds you might have downloaded many years ago can still work. The idea that traditional game systems are not like that never crosses people's minds unless they or someone they know has played video games for at least a few years.

In other words, things that are obvious to people who have played a lot of video games like you and me are not necessarily obvious at all to other people.

Like gba, Illegal 3rd party developers' been exploiting wii to the extent that Nindento just decided to turn this into PSP #2, and we cant blame them since wii is almost close to dead and there's no point on even mass producing it, but one thing for sure as a fan of classics I'll miss it.

Hate the critic on Watch Dogs since I absolutely love the game imo, everyone was comparing it to gta 5 because of the graphics and ui similarity but before the comparison became a thing watchdogs is all about hacking heist and easy money, challenging missions tho the police chase is even more sensible than gta 4-5
