Jeeeesus.

Holy!

DAAAAAYUM!

For a series that not only went off but paid conjugal visits to the deep end, this development has me in awe. Is another sequel series coming? Does the ending go RANMA 1/2 or ICHIGO 100% - by which I mean, it chokes at the finish line either way? Or does it go out in legit gonzo, self-aware-but-not-meta fashion? The mind reels.

For my part, strike one happened after the neglect of Yui Kotegawa. I thirst for a sober exploration of how what she wants and actually needs defines her place within the insanity that TLR has used as its lifeblood for close to ten years. I doubt anyone else cares for that, so I am always adjusting my expectations. Oh, well.

Don't worry, a sequel series is confirmed.

They've not setup for a finale at all, so this is likely going to be an excuse to change the title, as the Darkness subtitle is no longer as important to the plot.

Sequel manga launched in 2010, inspired 2 TV anime, 2 OVA episodes

There have actually been 9 OVA episodes based on Darkness. ANN lists them separately as 3 different OVA series with a combined 9 episodes across them. They were announced at different times as thus listed separately with the last announcement being the two episodes mentioned in the article.

I am not sure how they can bring this to a proper close in just one more chapter. It would just seem so rushed. The series is still popular, so I do not think sales is an issue. I am hoping it is just transitioning to a newly named manga "To Love-Ru ______" since the Darkness arc is over and the name no longer applies.

I second the request for more anime. Also for someone to please pick up the home video rights for the OVAs as none of the them have made it out of Japan. Not even the 2009 series which introduces Momo and Nana.

Technically there was no actual announcement of something concrete. Just a sentence saying something like his daily life or troubles will go on or whatever. Could mean anything.

Just because Haruna is Rito's #1 girl, that doesn't necessarily mean she's his true love. I lean towards Lala for that. I have a feeling a harem ending will be the route because otherwise we are looking at a 3rd manga series.

does this mean Darkness has 14 million copies in print. or does this count both the prequel and darkness together?

It'd be hilarious if the finale was just Rito finally having sex Laughing

They are not done milking this series yet I doubt it's really ending. Probably To Love RU: Darkness Drei or something.

somehting like that, yeah, the darkness subtitle will have to get dropped and something might be done to try and keep the series fresh, I mean, most of it's current charm comes from how censorship is avoided, but you can only reflect so many female body parts on rito's eyes before it grows stale.

I only see two real outcomes at this point:

1) It it is a harem ending: the series continues on with a new a subtitle.

2)If a singular heroine is chosen, then the series is done outside of whatever anime/ova/ film they have planned to finish up the uncovered parts of the manga.

My bet is the harem ending as I honestly don't see how they don't do a harem ending at this point.

I feel a little sad from hearing this since I love this series all too much but I'm all for a sequel series. I just hope that's what the so-called "secret project" is after all. I believe the story still has more to tell. I mean, how does Rito get from weak Earth boy to Harem King of the Universe? There's still time for an explanation for that.

Plus, I'm also waiting for a new season in the anime.
