While I can't say much I'm wondering why re-release this game unless it's going to have more content that the earlier release. I'd rather see newer games than updates of older versions. But I guess it can't be helped given the change in tech.

Same reason any company would release a largely unchanged version of a game: easy money. You get the people who never bought it in the first place and the people who will be willing to double-dip for whatever reason, all while making money to put towards newer projects that will cost more/take longer.
