Nice read. I agree that there needs to be more sci-fi, suspense and horror manga in the West. Thank goodness for Naoki Urasawa!

Weird that he`d crack on Comiket, but considering that there was a bit of a scandal with one book involving pikachu and `surprise sex`...

Don`t get it twisted, Comiket is ONLY good for the industry. It`s a massively effective marketing ploy that doesn`t take any money from the creators or publishers and only increases fan interest in the titles. Few (if any) doujin-ka ever make any money... it`s usually all put into the next book, and what little profit exists would be EATEN by travel expenses, hotels, printing costs, shipping costs, etc. Dollars to donuts the most obsessive fans are there.

And this year at Comiket, I could barely even step foot into the `industry` room, what with all the people there.

When major financial websites complain that there's too many Shounen Jump-esqe franchises being localised, you know you've got a problem.

"would be considered nearly pornographic in the U.S.,"

Hah, understatement of the year, or maybe they're talking about a another Comiket? Wink
