I wouldn't let that hold you back. They immediately follow with "(school/college newspaper OK). Fanzine, website or blog writing experience may be considered as well" -- so in other words, as long as you can present them good samples of quality writing and show reliability, they'll consider you without any real experience.
I mean, c'mon. It's a non-paying job; there's a limit to how picky they can be.
