| There's no way ghost in the shell is going to beat out the futurama movie. That one's a lock, just you wait. |

| Except for the fact that "Beast with a Billion Backs" was really, really bad. I don't think it or GitS will win. |

all I know is if Robot chicken wins, i'll have no faith in the taste of the average person. Family Guy is a good show, but I don't see it as anything special

As far as I can make out, this isn't about the average person. These are largely cult-ish titles with dedicated fanbases - even Torchwood is a spinoff from cult show 'Doctor Who' for those who aren't aware.
It's a DVD award for DVDs, not for just the show itself. |

That's a good question then: What is the judging based on? Technical achievement? Packaging design? Sales figures? Does the content of the show itself have anything to do with it? |

Well, the actual voting is public, and voters are urged to take factors related to the release itself into account; packaging, sound reproduction, etc. That much was in the article.
I can't presume to know what the judges' reasonings were behind picking the titles that they did, but it was probably on a set of similar criteria.
Speaking as someone who doesn't attribute much merit to Torchwood at all (So I'm a Torchwood hater, that's not really related to this topic so I'd rather people just accept that as my opinion and not call me out on it), I'm figuring the quality of the DVD release must have been weighed much more heavily than the quality of the show |

That is awesome, I was quite pleasantly surprised by the Hell Girl dvds. They had beautiful art card inserts in each one and very stylish cases, and had the best production quality/sound/menus I've seen for an anime dvd in quite awhile. Not to mention it actually fits to widescreen perfectly unlike alot of releases.
Now someone needs to make a video to urge people to vote for it, with Ai saying 'The decision...rests...with you...' |

| Nice to see that anime has gotten some more recognition. IIRC, some of FUNi's titles were up for this last year, too (DBZ and Beck). |

| If that is the case then I can understand why One Piece would get the nomination, because Funi basically cleaned up somebody's mess and gave us what should have been coming for a very long time. |

No, actually, Futurama (IMnsHO) usually kicks ass, but "Beast With a Billion Backs" felt like a half-hour episode stretched out into 90 minutes, as opposed to "Bender's Big Score," which was an actual movie; I really loved that one.
Unfortunately I haven't seen packaging etc. on most of these titles because I am still saving up the money to actually afford them, but GitS:SAC is high on my list (first place, actually). |

| News like this is always a plus for the Anime Industry. It can do no harm no matter how you look at it. |
