GOOD LORD!!!
Words cannot describe how wonderful that collection is!!!
That will BE MINE someday!!
I hope I marry an otaku wife, although I have a fetish for tomboy chicks with flat chests, who dress, act, and speak like guys, with long hair of course, maybe a ponytail (spiked) and also dig giant robots (think the theme to Megas XLR) I know I have a weird fetish !!
But then again to quote Mayumi Thyme from SHUFFLE! and Konata in episode 4 of Lucky Star, "A flat chest is a STATUS SYMBOL, extremely rare and VALUABLE!!!" |
Your reaction deserves a gold star. No, two gold stars! NO! A whole CABINET OF STARS!
I'm an otaku girl, lol. Although I hope you're tolerant of yaoi, shoujo, and shoujo-ai. |

Wow, that's an impressive collection there. I'd have to agree with the keeping the original cases -- the discs are too vulnerable without them and the case art is nice to look at too -- maybe I'm just a pack-rat.
Two questions:
1. Are all those CDs stacked to the right of the game shelves fansubs?
2. Where's the Lucky Star?!?! |

| As a fan of the DMC games, I can say that it definitely does help with enjoying the series. It seems to hit several of the features that make the games appealing, so it's worthwhile for fans. |

On the outside...that looks like a massive anime collection, but when you look at it, you start to notice things.
First off, half of that collection is half-assed. As in, half of it are mediocre, or outright BAD titles. And in this day and age, that's one of the things that pisses me off about anime fans: They just don't give a shit about quality as much, as long as it looks and plays like anime, IT MUST BE PURCHASED.
...However, they got the uber limited print of Escaflowne TV series...so I partly forgive them |

I got my Ouran DVD Friday and watched the dub over the weekend. I love how it lovingly skewers shoujo convention, all the while giving us a great romance and characters that wouldn't be at home any place else.
Overall, I loved the dub voices. Haruhi's was perfect. The twins, Hunny, Mori, Kyoya were all wonderful. The supporting people were good. Tamaki's VA was for the most part very good, but I felt that there were more "quiet times" in the episodes than the way he read it (in all fairness that could have a lot to do with the director). But I think this is one of my favorite anime dubs.
I also felt that the script was really well done. Kudos to whoever wrote it.
I can't wait for the second half of the series. Anyone know when it's coming out? |

| I would sword fight a ninja monkey to own even half of what was on those shelves. Seriously, there's been some rather large collections on Shelf Life, but from what I can tell that takes the cake, and none of inspired nearly as much jealousy as those. Now if only I can marry a girl into anime...or even meet a fan that doesn't scare/annoy the hell out of me with their rambunctious personality...or randomly tell me about all the hentai she read during class. Yeah, that's a conversation starter. |

If everything was up to personal taste, we wouldn't have ratings, reviews, and critics. |

Despite whatever the ratings are for these they are all rental only's for me. I must say that has to be the biggest collection I've ever seen that wasn't in a retail shop, even though it looks like a retail shop. As for garage sales, I can understand a wife demanding a collection going to the hammer when it's either it goes, or they loose the house to repo. I understand from US news reports that pawn shops are bulging with DVD collections from people cashing them in just to put petrol in their vehicles. Hard times call for hard choices that one can not ignore any longer. |

WOW first off, that's an AMAZING anime collection. I spotted many of my favs - Koi Kaze, Magic User's Club, Nightwalker, Utena, Sugar - and others that do not get much attention these days... absolutely awesome.
I would like to know - How many of these series have they actually watched? And do they both like the same thing or tolerate each other's series? Just wondered... and I hope they have a nicer tv in their living room. I would be sooo depressed to have a collection like THAT and have a tiny tv to watch it on.
To the "Guy" that said that half of the collection is "Half assed" - where do you get off on saying something like that? Being a "critic" myself (for over ten years) - I can say with personal experience that 99% of the time, it's all about personal tastes. One person may say Naruto is awesome, and the other think its total garbage. It's all about opinions, and everyone has their own personal one. The other 1% is saved for products that are just completely broken (terrible animation, awful dubs, awkward subtitles, etc) and even then, those titles are going to have their fans who swear up and down by them too.
I personally think they have a varied collection that has ALOT of really good titles that one might not recognize right off the bat.
Finally for those that are saying they wished they had a significant other to share their anime hobby with and calling out those that didn't know beforehand and ended up with someone that loathed it (and forced some spouses collections to be sold). You don't always know, and people change. My current S/O claimed he liked anime (he does, but only Battle Angel and the Animatrix), he liked rock music - I'm a HUGE metal/hard rock fan - (he does, but only select 70s bands), and he liked video games (he does, but only a very few things here too). And has great disdain for everything else, especially the anime. I have given up watching it when he's around because all he does is make fun of it.
So for those that said "You should have known" NO sometimes you don't! You never know someone til you live with them! |

I think that collection encompasses just about everything I've ever even thought of owning, much less owned myself. (I think the absence of Wolf's Rain is the only big surprise I noticed.) I don't know that I'm jealous so much as in a very deep state of admiration. You have excellent tastes and an extreme amount of devotion to your hobby...not to mention quite a bit of spare cash. |

Not quite. Review and ratings and critics provide a guide, barometer, compass or whatever you want to call it. They're not meant to tell you how to think, and I think that anyone who views them in such a way is making a huge mistake. They're there to provide you an educated viewpoint, and it's up to you to determine whether or not the points they make are valid and if they will effect your view of the subject.
You find critics and reviewers whose opinions you trust and seem to match yours, and they provide a good insight about the subject you are looking up. In the end, it really is all up to personal taste, and a reviewer is just an individual that is giving you theirs with an explanation, it's still up to you on whether or not you trust their tastes.
These people obviously don't think these titles are rental shelf only titles, or crap, and think well enough of them to buy. That's their call, and if it's worth it for them and they enjoy what they buy, then it's money well spent. It may not be money well spent for you, but you didn't spend it and it's not your money or room, so you need not worry about it. |

Not quite. Review and ratings and critics provide a guide, barometer, compass or whatever you want to call it. | I tend to think of them as "road signs". They tell you where the title is going, how far away the distination is, and warns of any obstacles along the way. It's up to you if you want to go that way, or not. |
