his speech was hilarious! XD
but i felt really happy for him and the Japanese animation industry.

all he could say was "SANKYUU <something>" (these shows should seriously have translators ready or something) and in the end, he looked like he just gave up and said "doumo arigatou".

(actually, i thought he said "sankyuu pencils" even XD;;)

I don't have a TV, so I'm stuck with the backstage "thank you cam." He said thanks (in Japanese) to his staff in Japan, pretty brief, he sort of seemed uncomfortable... not that I'd blame him.

Read his questionnaire that he filled out, it has interesting information on his inspiration: http://oscar.com/oscarnight/winners/?pn=detail&nominee=La%20Maison%20en%20Petits%20Cubes%20-%20Short%20Film%20(Animated)%20Nominee

I'm glad this won. Everyone predicted "Presto," which is easily the weakest Pixar short I've ever seen - and I usually love their stuff. "La Maison" was wonderful.

Which reminds me: that's a typo, it's La Maison, not Le Maison.

Due to total lack of interest in ever seeing any of the five Best Picture nominees, I haven't watched a second of this year's Oscar ceremony, but that's still very good news, even if all it has in common with what most people think of as "anime" is the same country of origin.

Keep it on topic. I'm really getting tired of your attempt to turn any thread you can in to an attack on the US animation/film/literature/comics/etc. industries. This thread isn't about Pixar, and it isn't about you, so since your post only comments on how much you disliked Pixars recent film, it stands to reason that it isn't relevant to the article.

Meh... the first thirty minutes were brilliant, and everything on the spaceship just couldn't live up to that. It was over-hyped for me, but it was still a very good film - better than the other two contenders, that's for sure.

If you haven't had a chance to see La Maison, do so, it's very beautiful and thoughtful. When I saw it in the local campus theater, the audience seemed almost uncomfortable with what to do with an animated piece that wasn't making them laugh. We've got a long way to go...

It's a shame so many anime fans (me included) ignored this. Though I think Sky Crawlers should have gotten a nomination.

To abunai, tempest, or woelfie: I know you guys are fluent in French, so could you please tell me whether the title starts with "La" or "Le"?

Better if you'd like to approve it (already in the queue) into the Encyc as well.

"Maison" is a feminine noun, so it's "La".

EDIT: Screencap:

Wall-E was mentioned in the article at the end though...Though I could understand being angry at someone for saying their personal opinion and not explaining why though.

Back to the main point of the article, this is good news! I'm always in favor of recognition of foreign movies here in the states, if it deserves it.

I think someone mentioned they were creating an entry. I agree, it's a fantastic short film.

You beat me to it. Wink They rarely get recognized, so this is cool. (Won for Departures)
