a week? you'd think someone would have realized by now that this system isn't working.

Nice to have the official confirmation of this. Way to go, Crunchyroll! I wish the best of luck in getting as many titles as you can.

Considering you're getting the latest anime from Japan with subs for free legally... well that's a pretty good trade-off in my eyes.
If you can't wait, pay-up, of rip them off by downloading from torrents.
Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Well, there's always the possibility of a DVD license. I've got a good feeling about this series, so I hope that happens.

YES!!

Only now the question is, to subscribe or not to subscribe? I did just get a temp position to make some extra money, so I'll definitely be considering it. I just got my Baccano! box set yesterday, and I am really looking forward to see if this can live up to its sister-series' potential.

well depends on how good Baccano's sales have been. i'd think they would want more from the guy that wrote Baccano.

ANN has asked Crunchyroll for clarification on the simulcast's schedule.

Rob clarified* it on Twitter

@Anime DURARARA!! schedule on MBS = 25:25 WED = 1:25AM THU. We are 1 hour after TBS's 26:25 FRI = 2:25AM SAT. Kapish?

*well, as clear as you can get given Twitter's limitations.

--edit--

The link in the article doesn't work
http://www.crunchyroll.com/durarara
Should be
http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/durarara

Currently the countdown to the first episode is at 1 day, 12 hours and 17 minutes.

And it's still wrong. Let's show this math with work since nobody seems to be able to get this straight:
First airing 1/7 "Late night Thursday 1:25AM" [MBS Site] =* Thursday 25:25AM [MBS Schedule] = Friday 1:25AM (as the rest of the world writes it)

*Broadcast times earlier than 4AM do not exist in Japan. Japan TV exists as 400-2759 or 4am to Late night 3:59am

Now my head really hurts.. so long working required
http://cal.syoboi.jp/tid/1802

MBS broadcast is 25:25 on the 7th (thu)
- this is 01:25 on the 8th (fri)
- in GMT this is 16:25 on the 7th.

TBS broadcast is 26:25on the 8th (fri)
- this is 02:25 on the 9th (sat)
- in GMT this is 17:25 on the 8th.

So basically, Rob got the first two days mixed up, should be THU and FRI.

--edit - missed a word--

Its free, its legal, and its a mere week after broadcasting. And, you can always pay a small subscription fee to watch it simulcasted in HQ.

Granted, subscription based streaming may not be the holy grail of anime localization and monetizing in the future (by itself that is), but one can hardly mark it as a problem. There are still problems concerning quality and availability, but the model looks sound atm and the industry is getting better at it. Happy times ahead. Smile

Oh come on. It is one bloody week. If a fan can't bear to be a mere week behind Japan then it is fairly clear to me that it is them who is not being reasonable. I understand that a business must shift to accommodate it's customers. However, there's got to be some shred of middle ground. I really have to think that anyone so inflexible is always going to find some reason to pirate no matter what. Even if it's just for the sake of being a bastard.
