No, half the movie is a bunch of old Russian guys talking about stuff that happens in the anime like it was some kind of historical drama.

clarification: LIVE old Russian dudes Laughing who I found did a superbly convincing job too!

Wait, you mean... live-action actors?

yes, lol. They are given mock interviews, (a couple with identities concealed if I recall) looking at some unknown off screen interviewer as if talking about their research or participation in this secret past. And these live action interviews are interspersed with the animation. But it doesn't constantly switch back and forth. The movie gives ample time per animation cut.

Some might find it hokey but I thought it all worked well

That sounds neat. It'll be interesting to see how Anchor Bay handles such a title. Also hoping for blu-ray.

Yes, there will be a Blu-ray release in late summer. It's stated in the AnimeonDVD article here: http://www.mania.com/first-squad-moment-truth-acquired-anchor-bay_article_123094.html

Quote:
...“First Squad offers fans a unique storyline about WWII and has received noticed from several film festivals,” commented Anchor Bay Entertainment President Bill Clark. “Anchor Bay is pleased to be releasing the film on both DVD and Blu-ray later this summer...”

Kind of odd for Anchor Bay to pick this up. I thought Warner Bros, or Funimation could pick this up. Question is, who's going to be the english VAs for First Squad? Will the Blu-ray and DVD carry both Japanese and Russian voices?

I'm pretty sure there is no Japanese dub. The Russian dub is the original.

I was wondering what was going on with this feature. Y'know I've always wondered what the fascination is with Nazi Germany combined with werewolves, vampires, and zombies. But you have to admit it does make an interesting combination.

Just like Afro Samurai, no Japanese voice at all, Just English. So that narrows the question to: Will it have English dub?

Recently the manga «Первый отряд. Момент истины» (First Squad, Moment of truth) and the novel «Первый отряд. Истина» (First Squad. Truth) were released in Russia.
I hope that they will explain everything that was obscure in the anime.
But I wonder, when people who doesn't speak Russian will have a chance to read it?

At least we got someone interested in checking this stuff out when it's not the rest.

Who knows. I kept getting stupid ideas of whether or not Detroit might be the next breeding ground for VA's this time around. Razz

Really, I can go back to the days when we had that rumor they were going to release In The Aftermath on DVD and it didn't happen. Good times!
