I suggest you look up what type of shopping district Akihabara is. | I know what it is, and if you did too you'd know it's not strictly for otaku nerds and geeks, only a part of it. |

| Do tell which "part" of that district it would be held at than? Couldn't possibly be that part aimed at all the Otaku could it... nah. You know tbh I'm surprised you're whining about this considering it's Macross and all, if it was some popular moe show yeah I'll expect that but the bastion of the old school macross... shocku! |

Perhaps you're unaware, or just don't care, that otaku aren't held in too high esteem in Japan, or elsewhere for that matter, and having a "party" to launch an imaginary ship will only bolster that opinion. But I, being an old git, have lost my urge for teenage demonstrative behavior, so forgive me for not seeing the positive benefit of such an event. |

| You appear to be missing the point entirely. Macross, like Gundam, is a pretty mainstream show (for example, Char/Amuro jokes will be made in morning TV shows and the like). And what gave you the idea that this would be an open-air event held in the middle of the street? |

Now now, let's try and maintain a certain level of civility here.
For the record, it is my belief that an outdoor festival/ceremony will not go down too badly in Akihabara. The "Otaku murders" happened a long time ago, and there are "mainstream" Anime that even the general public know about (and might even enjoy). Gundam being an obvious one, but Macross isn't all that horrible in the eyes of ordinary folk.
Having seen and heard about all the other zany antics the Japanese get up to (full scale statues of various Mechas, that new University/Inistitute for Gundam-related technology among others), I believe that a Macross festival would hardly be ridiculed for being about an Anime. And where better to hold it than Akihabara? If they aren't used to tolerating weird and wacky events, where the heck is?
No, if there was to be any criticism of this upcoming event, it would probably be aimed at the financial cost in a time of economic turmoil. However, given that modern Japan is no stranger to economic problems, I don't really see that anyone will really care about the cost. |

That clinched it. You've most obviously never been to Akiba. |

Bit of an unsuitable comparison. High-street fashion outlets are seldom the typical haunts for geeks or technophiles, and unless they shut the street to traffic there'll never be room for any parties there. |

I wish Japan had the same dedication to making babies as they do with having weddings and funerals for imaginary characters, and now launches of spaceships.
Oh well, more girls for me... |

What, did you expect Kawamori to drag a giant inflatable SDF-1 through the street or something? |

I agree completely, that would be awesome! Can you imagine the reaction of the folks who weren't clued in to what was going on? |
