I'd always interpreted that the point of the "reveal" wasn't that we weren't supposed to know it (obviously we were, since the characters in the story do), but that Kenji* finally admits who he is-- and the context in which he admits it is so perfect, where, when, how, and to whom.
*hidden just in case someone decided to read a review of the 19th volume of a series while expecting not to have plot spoiled for them... |

Actually, I'm going to agree with you, that's exactly why. I mean, it's bloody obvious it's the only person it could be, so it must be that he's denying it to himself, rather than the author hiding it from the audience. |
