It's good to see this film has made some money. Hopefully some of it works it's way back to Studio Ghibli and helps keep the animators busy.

Oh my does Studio Ghibli not need the help in any way. In the international box office Arrietty made $144 million on a budget of $23 million. There's no other studio in Japan that makes so much money off of the animation alone.
Besides, the way this kind of overseas licensing works is that Disney pays Ghibli for the rights and then proceeds to release the film and make that money back and then some more hopefully. The good news to be had from Arrietty's US box office success is that more Ghibli movies will probably be getting such wonderful wide releases over here in the future. |
