Yes! This is great news, and seeing as how it's Funimation, it'll probably have all kinds of super pretty packaging and everything too.
And I have to side with all the people who want Allison Keith and Tiffany Grant to come back and reprise their roles. I rarely watch dubs, but Allison Keith did such a great job as Misato. I actually have difficulty deciding whose voice I liked better, Allison Keith, or Kotono Mitsuishi.
Now, to wait for November. Ever since these movies were announced, I've always got some kind of Evangelion countdown going.

Speaking of pretty packaging, the one thing I enjoy about DVD covers and wish they'd implement more often are reversible ones. Yeah, it's not a huge extra or anything, but that small little extra amount of customization is pretty cool.

Where'd you hear the news of a double feature?

I remember reading (probably on this very site, and back when the movies were first announced) that the plan was for 1.0 to come out in 2007, 2.0 in spring of '08, and 3.0 and 4.0 were going to be released together in the summer. Obviously this isn't entirely the case, but I've got a feeling they'll still release the last two together. But "feelings" certainly aren't conclusive proof, so I could be very wrong.

Ahh man... that guy was horrible in my opinion. In End of Eva he sounded like a knock off black guy. I pray to god that they don't bring him back.

?
I think you're thinking of Hyuga, not (Shigeru) Aoba.

AWESOME! Great job Funimation, way to license a great movie. I knew Funimation would come through, I just knew it. This really makes me happy. Slayers, Oh Edo Rocket and the new Eva 1.0 movie, what a great list.

This is a start to a great year. Happy new year everyone and all the staff of Anime News Network. I look forward to another enjoyable year here. This is really great news!

Let's hope they give us extras. I got Eva platinum collection and there wasn't even a clean OP.

OK I'm kinda confused, hope someone can help me, alright, here's the list

Ikki Tousen*
Gad Guard*
Vandread*
Last Exile*
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo*
Gungrave*
Samurai Champloo*
Nabari no Ou
Oh! Edo Rocket
Slayers Revolution/Evolution-R
Soul Eater

the ones with *'s on them, are they actually licensed by funimation, or just 'going to be/are manufactured/sold/distributed' by them? It says Distribute on ANN, but when I go to funimations website, it says Licensed, can someone clarify this?

i'm assuming the ones without *s next to them are Licensed, if I'm right?

happy new year to all!

C'mon Funi... BLU-RAY !!!!! ALL THE EXTRAS!!!! FANCY MENUS!!! BD-LIVE and 2.0 features!!! Picture in Picture storyboards!!! Interesting Commentary!!! GAH!!!

Though I'm wondering if I should pick this up now, or wait 4 years for a box set of all 4 films... ah damnit, I'm too impatient for this... but I'll really kick myself if the inevitable boxset is really lovely with more significant extras...

It says what the * means right under the list. It means titles that were previously released by Geneon.

As for the cast, I hope they bring back the original cast. It isn't like such things called "Business trips" don't exist.

When you look back on the original TV dub, it really is quite good for the time it was made in. Of course, by everyone's standards today, it is pretty bad... however if you ever compared it to a show that was released up around the same time as Eva, you will probably see how much the Eva dub is exponentially better than most other shows of its time.

That being said, the quality of dubs as well as the experiance of actors have increased dramatically over the past decade. Even if they get the same actors, there is a pretty low chance that their acting will be as bad as it was in the TV dub. Think about it, better equipment, better directing, better digital editing and remastering, and overall better everything can only lead to a better quality dub.

I can't see any new people playing the roles either. It would be so weird hearing the different voices...

Also, what are the chances of this becoming a theatrical release? Like they did with Fullmetal Alchemist The Conquerer of Shambalah?

A lot of, if not most, of ADV's old dubs fail to hold up as well as some others.

Compare the dub of Vision of Escaflowne, a Bandai Entertainment licensed anime to Blue Seed, an ADV licensed anime. Now, while Vision of Escaflowne's dub isn't great, it holds up a lot better than Blue Seed's, which is is virtually intolerable. When I first watched it, years ago when it was shown on Encore's Action Channel, I didn't mind the dub. But now it's painful.

Hopefully not. When I went to see it, it looked liked they were just showing the DVD on the screen, which meant it wasn't exactly pretty. Although I'm enough of an "Eva" nut that I'd probably go anyway. Rolling Eyes

I am wondering if Funimation will have this out in the movie theaters like they did with Full Metal Alchemist? This movie has to be shown on a big screen because it is that beautiful!

Still waiting for the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei announcement.. don't fail me now Funimation!
