REVIEW: Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching

I had to stop reading this review. Are you going to tell me the entire plot before I even see the movie? I expect thoughtless spoilers from forum posts, but not from reviews!

I just thought the review was insanely long. Probably could've cut out about 3 of the paragraphs of synopsis and still be alright.

Yeah. It's pretty long. I also agree that there's a little too much plot synopsis, but still relatively OK. Maybe the reviewer was under the assumption that not everyone had the seen the series and that this synopsis might give a better understanding? Smile

Ah well, the reviewer also did a good job in commenting on the technical aspects of the movie (art, animation, music, etc.) going into just enough depth so as to not make it sound like an excerpt from a "making of" portion of a DVD Razz

However, I'm a little iffy when people use the word "perfect" when comparing differences between two versions of the same aspect (in this case the English and Japanese voice acting).

I'm just being picky here (so sorry Embarassed

), but I'm sure it must really be difficult to eliminate the bias that accompanies peoples' likes and dislikes for subs and dubs, especially when you have to review it.

I can tell you now that I'm uber guilty of doing this since I'm a little more inclined towards subtitles (so sorry Embarassed

), but as a tip (please feel free not to accept it Wink

), perhaps in further reviews, reviewers should try to refrain from using that word ("perfect").

I mean, I'm sure some fans will agree, but then you've got some people who may also disagree, and then we'll get into another argument like that 12 Kingdoms review thread Anime cry

But please don't conform to what you think people will like. I know it's just your opinion, and I respect that. Every person is entitled to one Anime exclamation

, so go ahead and keep saying what you're saying. It's just that... "perfect" is such a very sensitive term (sorry Embarassed

).

Anyway, you still have my utmost adoration, Mr. Martin, for your extremely good review of what (I feel) is a very decent movie. I hope you'll be doing movie 2 someday as well. Wink

Worth getting this if I've only seen the first season of Inuyasha?

Concerning IanC's question: if you're planning to get/watch the second season of Inuyasha, then I'd recommend waiting until after you've seen it to see the movie. Otherwise you'll be confused about some of the things Inuyasha is doing with his Tetsusaiga and the presence of Rin (who doesn't appear until the second season, I think).

As for the other comments (I'm the reviewer, BTW): thanks for the compliments! This was one of my entries for the contest ANN did over the past couple of months to choose two new paid staff reviewers. I was one of the finalists, but I was eliminated on the very last cut. Crying or Very sad

There's a couple more contest entries of mine that may be posted eventually, but future reviews will fall to the regular guys.

Concerning the use of "perfectly-cast": yeah, I knew I was making a pretty bold statement there, but I've seen a hundred or more different series dubbed over the past few years and can't honestly think of another series that has a better-chosen dub cast from top to bottom. Whether you like dubs or not, Inuyasha is top-tier amongst anime series released in the U.S. when it comes to dub quality and script faithfulness.

As for the length? Hmmm, looking back, it is a bit on the long side, isn't it? When I get enthusiastic about a title, I have to work hard to restain my long-winded tendencies. Smile

<.< the dub is better than the sub? wow i foind that sincerely hard to believe as i can't stand one of the voices in the american dub meh i ain't biased either, i like dubs. the good ones <.<

it was a great movie, but as good as ya make it out to be it's the worst of the bunch. 3 more movies to go ^^ i'm awaiting #4 now hehe. Episode 167 had a preview for it, a trailer should be forthcoming.

This entire story's strength is in the intricacies of the back story and the changing events through out the series. Myself i would have done a few things differently, but that is without reading the manga which i reccomend to everyone including myself <.<

I thought the reviewer did a great job. It looks longer than it really is because he put the synopsis into the review instead of the synopsis box, but he did a good job of covering all of the aspects of the movie and explaining his decisions.

Saw Love that transcends time injapanese dub, and it was absolutely a materpiece, along with castle beyond the looking glass
