I've bought lots of anime DVD's and BD's. I don't download it and never will.

these news articles posted on here doesn't dissuade one downloader from downloading anime and it's just a waste of space on this site.

Seems like censorship of the news to me.

readers here don't live in japan.

Actually, if you look at the location field of several of the posters on this site, you'll find they live in Japan, and the U.K., Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, Canada, and many other places all over the world.

Yeah stories like there do wonders for copyright enforcement and protection.

Just look at all the good your local evening news does to deter crime.

Reporting crimes, best defense ever.

Did somebody say that these news stories help to deter copyright infringement...? TBH, your sarcasm isn't making any sense if nobody is making that claim in the first place.

I also hope you're not suggesting that the local evening news shouldn't report on local crimes. Laughing Heaven forbid that Anime News Network report on anime-related crime. Rolling Eyes

I do believe dan9999 pointed out that such articles are used to instigate fear. I didn't directly quote him but that was the direction used for my comment.

The evening news, or any news outlet, shouldn't report on crimes because their reports don't lower criminal statistics? Absurd. I didn't imply or suggest that. News media simply tries to use fear tactics in order to reinforce/validate a certain agenda and it's only effective on the people who already agree with whatever POV is being pushed.
