Personally, I would've definitely preferred Johnny Depp as Spike, but Keanu Reeve's isn't THAT bad.

I hope I don't get crucified for this, but I think that, were he still with us, Heath Ledger might actually have been a good fit for the role.

Since Shinichiro Watanabe himself is involve. I'm a little relieved.

He did two or three lines as Neo. Notice did not even show animated Neo's face.

Well, thank you for making a good concept into a bad one, Hollywood. Here's a simple math equation:
Good idea + Keanu Reeves = significantly less good idea

i wouldn't get too excited or disappointed in this yet, film projects have been scraped way farther into production, and actors even later into production. I am rather interested in Watanabe being involved in production, it rather inspires confidence in the film, despite reeves attachment(he has been in good films before).

Then what's the equation for Dragonball, since that was so not a good source material for a Hollywood blockbuster in the first place...?

What.
Anyway, that show-stopping piece of crap aside, a real Cowboy Bebop fan will look at this news, shake their head dejectedly, take an aspirin or some alka-seltzer, go to bed, wake up the next morning, and carry on with life as usual.
As Spike himself said, "Whatever happens, happens."

I'm a little worried about Reeves playing Spike, but since many of the people who were involved in the Japanese version are involved it might be okay. This is actually good news to me. It's a lot better than hearing about who will be replacing David Tennant in Doctor Who. Ugh! Bring on the Cowboy Bebop film!
And yes, I hope the brilliant Yoko Kanno will be involved too!

This is a project that I am interested in. I'll wait to see what happens with this movie before I go off and say anything further about it.

Haha, I knew this would become true. I heard it quite a while ago and I lol'd then -- and I lol now.
As long as Yoko Kanno does the music, I'm set. Knowing Keanu Reeves will be Spike is satisfactory enough for me.

If Japanese people are saying that that movie is going to suck, I would hope that they don't say the same about a movie starring Keanu Reeves and has some producing by Nabeshin.
