| I'd actually rather see Meet the Spartans/Disaster Movie beat out Speed Racer.
GO WALL-E!!! |

| I acutally enjoyed Speed Racer. I used to watch the show when I was young and although the movie did some odd things, I found it worth watching, and worth owning. | ||||

| well this is dissapointing, Both Sword of the stranger and The Sky Crawlers were better than any of the other films nominated this year. | ||||

Seriously? WALL-E is one of the best films I've seen in a long time. There is a local movie theater that's showing Sword of the Stranger in my area in February, so I might check it out. |

WALL-E was cute, fun. Sword and Crawlers reach to a deeper sense of emotion and plot, Crawlers much more so. |

| Wall-E is massively overrated in my not-so-humble opinion. Yes, the opening with just the robots, with the gritty, realistic animation and the Charlie-Champlinesque feel was absolutely fantastic. In fact, any scene with the robots were great. But the moment they wound up on the spaceship with the cartoonish, globular humans, it turned into just Yet Another Pixar Movie. And Disney, the makers of a million movies, TV shows, and video games, telling us to get outside and exercise? I'm not sure if that's bitterly ironic or downright hypocritical.
Of course, I haven't seen any of the other movies that were eligible in the category, so it may still be the best. I just wish it had lived up to the potential of its opening. |

| I think this article should have also informed everyone that the movie "Departures" is up for Best Foreign Film. The movie may not have anything to do with anime directly, but, according to the wiki, Joe Hisaishi composed the soundtrack, and Hisaishi is well known for his work on Miyazaki's films. That link's wrong; it takes you to a television series. Cut and paste it so that you get the full URL that will take you to the movie. And since you deleted the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/ |

I agree, the animation was nice until the fat humans came, WTF? and perhaps pixar needed to do a little more research into space, there is no way that plant could have survived for that long in the VACUUM OF SPACE. of the 3 nominated i like Kung-Fu Panda the best, I love kung-fu movies and that just a series of reference to them. |

| vashfanatic: Yeah unfortunately the parentheses in the link aren't recognized on this message board as part of a link. You have to copy/paste everything, including what's in the parenthesis for it to work.
Or you can just go to the official website (in Japanese): http://www.okuribito.jp/ And scroll down to see the information about him. |

| I didn't really care for WALL-E all that much. It was entertaining the first time, but unlike all of the other Pixar films, I don't feel it has a lot of rewatch value; I was bored out of my mind on the second viewing, and the simple thought that two robots designed for very specific tasks would suddenly fall in love... it actually started to annoy me the more I thought about it.
If anything upsets me it's that Speed Racer isn't up for Visual Effects. I know it was perceived (and performed) as a disaster, but when you ignore the single most impressive (for better or for worse, depending on whether or not you got a headache) spectacle of the year, I really don't know what to make of your credibility, which has been waning for me ever since Crash won Best Picture. It's like leaving the kid who messed up the cookies out of the family Christmas photo. |

Yeah, I could watch The Incredibles a million times and still love it... Wall-E wasn't bad, it was just overrated. But maybe anime ruins you for that; everyone says "innovative!" and I expect Kaiba. |

| You guys know for Anime to be nominated for anything it has to be both extremely good and have an extreme amount of buzz. I'm not saying there is a bias, but...
...well let's just say that despite what hardcore fans think, it is excellent that Disney localizes the Ghibli films because no other anime film is ever going to be given a chance! As for speed racer, getting nominated for a Razzie is foolish. Any fan that actually saw the film would see that it was a faithful rendition while modernizing the content while at the same time retaining the retro feel. Most critics did not like it because they probably didn't like Speed Racer, but Speed Racer and Anime fans should have given it more of a shot. (Unless people want more movies like Dragonball Evolution... or to be shunned again altogether) |

...and be rated "G" or "PG." Never underestimate the American ability to think that animation means it's for children. That being said, Waltz With Bashir getting a nod in the Best Foreign Film category is a good sign; perhaps the tides are changing? |

| I didn't think Speed Racer was worthy of a Razzie nomination. Not that it matters, there's no way that anything will beat The Love Guru for Worst Picture. | ||||
