I hear this Akira Toriyama fellow is big news too |
Oh yeah? I used to read Dr slump in the 80's,tell me about it.
Now see,Dreamfactory did such a good job with Toriyama's Illustrations in Tobal No 2.It was a crime that No 2 never made it to the U.S. Do you know why? Because it was known that everyone bought Tobal for the Final Fantasy 7 demo.Nothing more.Toriyama's following in the U.S. was still cult status then.

It's a shame ain't it.They were so much better as rivals.

That sounds like a nice bundle: 160G PS3, Blue-ray FF:AC, and a demo for FFXIII. If they did the same thing over here, I might consider ignoring my want for a backwards compatible system. Will that happen? Probably not unless the system gets a lot cheaper.
At any rate, I really do wish they'd just make a bloody remake of FF7. I've never played it, but I do want to. Rather iffy on buying games from ebay, especially the ones I see going for really cheap.

I didn't like the movie the first time around, so I couldn't care less about 30 minutes of new footage that likely consists of action sequences that drag even more than the ones in the original, dialogue that STILL gives off no impression of a coherent story, and more of them shoving Nomura's idea of "cool" down our throats.
Seriously, who died and put him in charge? Square's lost its soul since Sakaguchi's departure. Their franchises are truly nothing more than soulless cash cow money trains these days. It's the most played-out sentiment there is, but I still hold that FFVI, Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG were their last truly great games.

This is irrelevant. Both teams are still separate internally. Square is not making Valkyrie Profile DS or Star Ocean IV, and Enix is not making Final Fantasy XIII or Final Fantasy Random Spinoff.

I meant in Japan, as this topic is in regards to Japan. Tobal No. 1 came out at the tailend of DragonBall GT, and around the time the Daizenshuu's started to come out (IIRC). I'm sure his name alone sold a bunch of copies in Japan. Much like Blue Dragon, not a gem that one, but is Japan's best selling Xbox 360 game. Obviously Tobal No. 1 came to North America a little too early to cash in on Toriyama's name.

Nice HD trailer. But no matter how much Square Enix adds to Advent Children,it's still a turd. One big lingering, fanservice turd.A turd covered demo.
All I see is the demo really.

No doubt,I still buy everything Toriyama has a hand in.

The Daizenshuu's were a treat. I wish the U.S. had an appreciation for art books and canon guides.I used to collect them in the 90's.

Makes sense.Sakaguchi's rep sells, like Toriyama's sells.Tons.(Especially collaborations like Chrono Trigger).

It definitely would have been different,If it would have hit during the 2000 boom.
I knew what was going on.I'm not new to any of that.I enjoyed Tobal for the fighting and the dungeon.Truly though,it was filler time while we counted down the hours for FF7.

You won't get any argument from me about those great Snes games.I still own/play them on occasion.
I'm still disappointed about the Square and Enix merger, and after Sakaguchi left,I became less and less enthusiastic about any of the current SE releases.Doesn't help that I can't stand Nomura's illustrations and direction.Yuck.
And XIII....aghhhhhh! I still love Enix though.

Shadow, you mentioned those official guide books -- one reason those irritate me is because a lot of details that either feel like they're afterthoughts or reveal stuff you should have been told during the game are only in those books, and it's all considered canon. Japan must have this obsession with minutiae that only the most hardcore people would bother to find out about.
