To those on the board who say well its no big deal or its not my property, its still wrong.

What if someone just came into your house and took everything you had or just came in and said well this property is now mine and took over. Would you think it was a big deal? You'd be screaming hey someone stole all my stuff, that's not fair, that's not right. Then you'd expect someone to do something about it. What if the police said well its not my stuff they stole your out of luck.

To us anime fans its like someone coming and taking away our anime collection. I own hundreds of dvds. I bought and paid for them and its like someone coming in and just taking them away and declaring they aren't mine anymore.

Stealing is still stealing and China is notorious for doing it.

I don't think Oda would of minded, it just gets One Piece more popular. Which is why he even supports Piracy. (Not telling people to do it, but doesn't care if people do.) He even said that he was against SOPA when other authors were for it.

Oda doesn't care, he doesn't care about money, he just wants One Piece to be recognised by everyone.

Come on, people are really biased here, when you say China and the Chinese are like that, just because it's China. There are people in China who innovate, but surely it's not very encouraging when people make cheap generalization about China and the Chinese. Sure, there are knock-offs in China, but that doesn't mean 100% of the whole population in the country is literally making them. Also who are buying them? Not only by the Chinese, that's for sure; there's a market for these knock-offs outside of China, e.g. in the USA, Europe etc etc..

People tend to forget that Japan, the country that people here know for the anime and manga, were doing the same thing, copying western designs and products 1:1, and Japan even had their own unlicensed Disneyland that's called Nara Dreamland, way before Disney officially open an official Disneyland in Japan. It took many years before Japan innovates as the country we know for their electronics, video games and so on.

Y'know the quote. The people who don't care about money are those who already have a ton of it. Laughing

China should have no problem when we embezzle some of their ideas.

If Chinese copied stuffs before internet, most people wouldn't even knew about it. They will be hidden under rug as their culture gain more prominence through rising economy. Japanese did the same thing in decades ago. Unless Chinese creators make their own unique intellectual property soon, people all over the world will not respect Chinese pop culture.

We don't know how much money those rip-off theme park and restaurant will make. If they make more money on rip-off One Piece than Japanese counterpart, then they will be in serious trouble. China has almost 300 million people under 14 years old, after all. We should understand why Japan and other countries' IP industries get anxious when Chinese copy their stuffs.

Some guy tried to open a Naruto Cafe in my college town... It didn't last long. He was Asian, of course. Ok, that's racist.

But yeah, Asian countries all have weird copyright laws. In Japan, Every. Single. TV show. steals music for use as BGM. It's ALL stolen from somewhere. I've heard Star Wars, Michael Jackson, songs from Eureka Seven, Evagelion...

And then there's Doujinshi, which as we know is by and large pornographic knockoffs of famous characters. Getting protection from parody use clearly does not cover the sort of things you find on doujinshi, because it would for someone to mistake them with the originals.

At least they'll know one exists. I didn't know it did.

China is doing well if they're saving all this money in national coffers and not distributing among corrupt leaders. In case they are, and decide to invest this fortune in technological advancement, it's really going to be tough for any nation to surpass them.

What a theory... Laughing

Copyright infringement isn't stealing any more than unauthorized delivery of first-class mail - you can consult the lawbooks of every state on the planet if you want proof. Really, this is more like the cops busting down your door because you combined pencil and paper in a way the law only let your neighbor do(actually, that's exactly what copyright is - a monopoly on patterns).

Yeah, Oda might not mind it because he's not losing money. But the thing is, once you let one thing slide, they will start doing more of it. If this is 'okay' or 'allowed' next, they will do something like Naruto Cafe or Bleach Restaurant or something, and that hurts the other authors.

Imagine having developed something in a very long time, through very hard process, only to have others mooch off the rewards later. Scans and subs get no money, but this restaurant is getting money from promoting something they didn't even make.

That said I can't imagine being a graphic designer or artist in China, I bet copyright means nothing there.

Heavens!!!

Congratulations, you are well indoctrinated by the music/movie industry!

COPYING is NOT stealing period, If you do not believe go look it up via a dictionary. Hecki look at the own word COPY-WRONG.

Your example is totally wrong. To re-arrange the example you made: I have a cool house exterior or interior design and someone see it and decided its COOL, and decides to copy it or is inspired on it to build his/her own! Wheres the darn stealing?

Like the person above me said, copyWRONG is simply a useless innovation-prevention monopoly so noone can further improve on ideas/concepts/etc/.

copyWRONG

Using buzzword like this only makes you look painfully sensationalistic.

I do have a question for you, though. Say I write a manuscript for a fiction book, and get a copyrighr for it. However, my friend decided to be a giant asshole and steal my manuscript and publish the book under his own name, making profit off of my idea.

Does this still not count as stealing in your eyes?

Exactly--unique patterns I made before anyone else did.

The fact that you anti-copyright people are so damn ignorant of this fact is just plain comical.

Heavens, I dont like to go in detail in a forum that is so pro-copyright but ok, I will answer you.

Your example is this case is totally irrelevant. This guy took inspiration on OP for his restaurant. HE IS NOT publishing the manga/anime/merchandise as his own work...see the difference?

Now for your example, sight... Did you read my comment up till the end, I said FURTHER IMPROVE and or develop ideas and concepts, I am not saying with abolishing copyright that people should make what you say, for example re-publish a work as your own, thats low indeed and wrong, to explain what I meant, look what happened with the rumble feature in the original PS controller, or for example look what happened with nintendo's wiimote (between MANY examples), if useless copyright and patents were to be respected strictly and people did not agree with what I am saying we would not have had any further innovation, but they go ahead and defy getting sued (like with the rumble feature of the PS) because innovation and further development is needed (plus big companies have the resources and power to deal with any consequences), but of course when said companies are the affected ones they will do everything in power so other people dont apply the same logic with them.

In the case of books, manga and similar, see the doujin example, the industry in Japan let it slide because its beneficial for them actually, its creates a bigger fanbase, oh but wait when someone takes inspiration in a work AND creates HIS/HER OWN view on said work, for example non-erotic doujinm and actually succeeds and creates a quality work that may be seen as a threat to the original, then they will actually apply the copyright laws to maintain the monopoly...see the double morals? example: DORAEMON doujinshi's case.

A case in game industry: Chrono trigger 3D project , this is what we support, the original is there, has been exploited and abandoned (but competition should exist even if something is new however, lets other try to make something better too = free competition), someone else comes in and wants to recreate the work (NOT re-brand and release the original as HIS/HER/THEIR work) , develop a NEW project with/by his own means and talent, taking inspiration in another project...

BUT WAIT, this is competition, what if this succeeds, what if its good? It will make SEnix look bad, then the copyright comes in to prevent the completion and maintain the monopoly..

I will leave it at that, you pro-copyright people are well indoctrinated and wont change your mind, nor us that believe copyright and patents are innovation-preventing tools that need to disappear, monopolies should disappear and real competition and innovation need to be the stars.
