I wonder when female otaku who are not fujoshi can get their sexy reverse harem with close-up bouncing male body parts to the camera, males clothes being completely ripped off every 30 seconds while fighting, males being groped every 40 seconds and male panty shots every 50 seconds?
For the clothes thing, isn't that damn near every fighting shonen ever? As for the actual question, the answer is as always "when they damn well start paying for them"(I really do wonder why they don't, though).

I think the "Class S" is just sisterhood. I don't think the majority of those who took part in were real homosexual regardless of whether the view that women must find husbands and depend on men exists or not.
AFAIK, the whole Class S idea is of a girl-girl "romance" as a practice relationship for when they get married. The real puzzler here is how many of them that turn sexual break up and find hubbies because the girls involved aren't really gay and how many do so purely because of cultural expectations and social pressure.

No, it's not. The equivalents of Tyrant and Gravitation are Straberry Panic! and Sasameki Koto. There are no shows like Highschool DxD and Sekirei for women. Or I haven't seen one yet. But I am sure they are no where near the amounts of the ecchi shows and manga.

That's because that's not what women want. Women have their own kinks, just like men. They like different things and their series cater to them. A penis flopping up and down in the camera isn't going to appeal to them as much as breasts doing the same would for men. Yaoi manga is written a different way than ecchi/harem stuff for a reason; they know what their audience is into. It's not a simple case of 'replace all the genders and it's equal'

This should have been "that's because that's not fujoshi want. Fujoshi have their own kinks, just like men." Yaoi manga are written in the way fujoshi (the market) want, not (all) women want.

And Hentai is written to appeal to the division of the market of men who buy it, we're all assuming here when we say men/women, we're not talking about the whole of a gender.

I want to address the question of characterisation, which Brian basically addressed with a generic "Yes! Characterisation is important! You should do it early and often!"

As someone currently attempting to complete my first novel (after numerous previous attempts), I think I'm more aware than most of the mechanics involved. Yes, I said mechanics. Characters don't always spring into existence fully formed, especially if you are dealing with a lot of them. This is where method and technique matter just as much as inspiration.

I also found the characterization aspect the most interesting comment. I also write (I don't know whether I can say that I'm a writer, at least of fiction, yet).

I think that Brian was specifically talking about writing from a scriptwriting / actors' angle. The examples that he uses makes it clear that this is his focus. When your characters are defined only by the way they speak, their speech mannerisms are important. What they say, how they say it, and why they do all shape a character.

I think that novels can avoid this because novels don't really depend on the speech mannerisms of characters. I've read plenty of very strong novels where the characters didn't seem to follow the 'template' of what it meant to be a 'well-fleshed' character. Does Mersault in The Stranger / The Outsider have a motivation or an interest? Is it important? Should we care?

On the note about the mechanics of character building for novels, I've never found those 'character templates' very useful. There was a point -- when I was around eighteen to my early twenties -- when I was taking in all these 'writing advice' columns and using all sorts of writing aids and kits, which included templates for characters that required me to know what their favourite food was or how old they were or if they had a habit of saying 'Sacre Bleu!' in their sleep. The end result of these efforts were pages and pages of framework for a story -- but no story.

I'm not very familiar with scriptwriting. It's very likely that it works in a completely different way than characterization for novels.

I remember reading that Japan doesn't consider lesbian relationships to be "true" relationships, and being in one is considered immature and "childish", for whatever f*cked-up reason.

That would slightly explain why in My Sisters, the spoiler[Brother commented on why his sisters porno with another pornographic actress/friend was great, yet the box cover said it was girl-girl, but the following panels showed the two being f!cked by a gaggle of guys. And the brother says that they are doing Lesbo stuff.]

Man, sometimes Porno is so f!cked up when it comes to describing the actual contents of the item itself!!
Yeah, sadly there just isn't any truth in advertising for porn these days, not like the old days.

That sounds awesome (for one show, at least) and I would buy it in a heartbeat, as long as the guys looked male and weren't all skinny bishounen. Heh.

<.<...>.>...that would make for an awesome parody. Now, would that be men groping men, or women doing the groping? I rather have the the men doing the groping. And it would so have to be speedo shots, not panty shots.
