I'm sorry to say this... but I can think of no way, place, time or reason that anyone could be justified spending more than 100,000$ on a Hello Kitty figurine...

Just because I feel the need to outdo you (I refuse to dig even deeper for even more worthless currency), I'm not even sure I'd spend one meticais (Mozambique) on the merchandise... if I was buying it for myself. My niece, on the other hand, adores Hello Kitty, so why wouldn't I buy related merchandise for her?

As a collector of other goods however, I can understand the eccentricities of those who can afford it.

I can think of at least two reasons: First of all, it a one-of-a-kind collectable item. Second, it's a diamond encrusted, platinum figurine. I think that makes for a pretty good investment (even if you have no interested in Hello Kitty whatsoever).

I ordered directly from Sanrio in San Fran. They're pretty big looking plushes too (a standard Kitty with Teddy Bear and a Kitty dressed up as a rabbit). I thought they were going to be a lot smaller than they really are. I know they will be great gifts.

depending on the size (maybe size of a regular backpack), 25 dollar each seem about right. Plushie are pretty expensive, like a 36' totoro was about 100 dollar, but if you're buying it for soeone you like, it's worth it.

On the topic of Ms. Puss, however, here's a bit I found incredibly pathetic.

That show, what is it... America's Next Top Model? There's this one girl on it (rather resemblnig a Kewpie doll) who's definately the brainless twit of the bunch. The model-wanna be's found out they were going to Tokyo and she (I sort of quote) had this to say:

"Wait, Tokyo? Awesome! I can't believe it!! *squeal* "Sooo cool. Wait, where IS Tokyo... is it...in Japan, yeah I guess so" *cue other girls screeching in the backgruond about going to Japan* "So I don't know, where is Tokyo, I mean, what are the kind of people who live in Tokyo? Tokyoites?" (and she's truly, totally clueless)

Apparently she's not aware that Tokyo is not a country, that Japan is, and that therefore those Japanese people she maybe has heard about MIGHT also be referred to as Japanese if they come from Tokyo. Wait, though, it gets worse.

"OMG I just found out they have Hello Kitty in Tokyo! Oh I LOVE Hello Kitty and I can't believe I am going to a place where they have her!"

Um. She loves Hello Kitty and is oblivious to the fact that Ms. Puss is a cultural icon in that country. Further, she's more excited abuot getting to see Hello Kitty (??) than traveling to Tokyo for model photo shoots. Wait, this is a stupid girl we're talking about.
