Took them long enough. Any later and it would have been a posthumous award. Still nice looking gong. Looks almost like a British one. Wink

Good job Frederik L. Shodt it's weird though that the goverment is giving him a medal for translating books.

What a great honor for him.

But he hasn't just translated books, looks like he's also written quite a bit of literature on the subject of Manga.

I like his depth of understanding and excellent writing style. Beats most contemporary writing on anime and manga into a cocked hat.

His translation of "Ghost in The Shell" original Manga, is the exemplar of good manga translation. Toren Smith was also involved but my impression is that Schodt provided at least some of the horsepower.

Literate and (I believe) accurate. Contextual with small added explanations & additions. I just loved the way they handled Shirows' whimsical mangaesque asides, it bears the marks of repeated polishing - unlike much translated manga now - just whacked up - workmanlike but without depth.
