Why do people complain so much about the name changes in Detective Conan?

If you think about it, Conan's name changes doesn't sound as bad as what the Italians did to Monkey D. Luffy.
They renamed him "Rubber", and later tried to name him Monkey D. Rubber, before they finally switched to Monkey D. Luffy around episode 400.
