Didn't PSME have to have a lot of disclaimers to make the abnormally large quantity of otakukin for it shut up during it's release or something? I notice it quite well in every single one of my manga of it (curses at still missing V. 1 and V. 13), big "this is a work of FICTION" notice on it. I think I remember reading it somewhere either on the internet or in one of the books about there being a lot of otakukin for it. |
That's the story I heard as well. The author also commented on it in some of her little columns. I don't hink the word otakukin goes that far back, but I can image PSME contributing to the idea of otakukinism (is that a word?).

Otakukin! I knew there'd be a catch! ALL con girls are crazy b*tches, no exceptions!

what a twist! i just couldn't pass up the opportunity to react this week's strip, even though i know what i'll say has already been said
show her your tattoo kevin! and go tell the other star warriors to find nakago or something
looks like I'll also have to thank ZAC for posting that otakukin flake, i wouldn't have enjoyed the strip the way i'm enjoying it now if was not able to read that!
and now i'll have to get my stomach back in, it came out when i was laughing too hard

Actually, this is a good thing. o.O It gives her a weird enough personality to have her stick around, an excuse to obsessively follow Kevin, and plenty of potential joke material.
Definitely a keeper.

Everyone likes Kevin's face at the end (don't get me wrong, I do too)...but I absolutely love his blush face in the first panel. So adorable! *pinches his cheeks*
I haven't seen Fushigi Yuugi (though I've always wanted to ), so I feel like I'm not getting as much out of this comic as I could, but it explained enough for me to still find it funny.
Also, I'd never heard of "otakukin" before this. Wow. Learn something new every day. O.o

Yes, they covered this creature once on a very special Hey Answerman! And, yes, they do exist.
I've actually seen something similar on Something Positive pertaining to furrykins. But your last panels were very unique and funny. Kudos.

He's still sane?

Agreed. If I hadn't read that column way back when, I wouldn't have known those sorts of people even existed.

Same here. I thought it was hilarious on its own merits, but I wonder how much funnier it is to someone who understands the full weight of the in-joke?
