I wonder if this will be as horriable or even worse than the Dragon Ball movie? My guess, it will be slightly worse.

The budget is very low, so I expect something really horrible...Also it seems they want to upgrade Leon to main character according to the report.

Ugh, don't do this to Bubblegum Crisis!

Oh well, maybe it'll get people watching the original again.

I don't know part of the appeal to me about the original BGC was the 80s vibe and the whole punk/rock/metal thing from Priss. I'd just be afraid of it being westernized and sexed up too much, and diminishing the roles of the 4 females in order to give Leon and whoever else a bigger role - because audiences can't handle having an action movie with no real significant male leads.

Charlie's Angels?

Not being a fan I'm not too concerned about what they're doing, but how they're doing it.
With an international team behind it with a whooping 30 million budget to back it up, what could go wrong?!

All of this international coordination seems like a lot of trouble to go to for something that--thanks partly to the probable necessity of that coordination--seems to have a slim chance of not being awful.

Dragonball technically had an international team too...

$30 million is fairly decent. Not blockbuster amount but still a workable amount. I'm not a fan of the series too so I won't have much bias when I see this show or read more about as it progresses.

Any case if this movie is half decent it might provide ideas for the Metroid adaptation that's been in limbo for forever now.

The production is decidedly void of Hollywood influence on paper...hopefully it will stay that way.

I have low expectations, as I love Bubblegum Crisis, but maybe it'll surprise me and be good, like Dragonball Evolution.

There are two things going for this over, say, Dragonball:

1) The original Bubblegum Crisis is fundamentally episodic, so there's no overarching plot that would have to be compressed for a feature-length story. That assumes they're not adapting Tokyo 2040 or Crash (but if they touch Crash with a ten-foot pole it's doomed anyway, so let's not go there).
2) BGC owes a lot of its sensibility to Western cyberpunk. Not all, certainly, but a good deal. When something came from live-action productions to begin with, it's got to be easier to make the transition back to that format, right? I hope so.

That said, I have little hope for any project that tries to do Knight Sabers and Boomers on a budget, because BGC is 80s in a lot of ways, but light on the special effects it ain't.

I'm betting that this'll actually be pretty cool, cause hey, more BubbleGum Crisis! That, and I'm guessing Sylia Stingray and Nene Romanova will be the caucasian actresses, with asians for Priss and Linna. Which is pretty accurate

I think this might actually turn out well because of the source material's setting and style. Cyberpunk is easier to pull off than a monkey boy gathering magical balls while fighting a green alien (I would hope), and the setting is less fantasy and more sci-fi, and in my viewing experience the latter genre is easier to pull off.

The budget's higher than, say, Pitch Black, and that had some very nice effects. I'm far more worried about:
Quote:
partly bankroll the film with funds from the respective governments and release the film in China.
When governments get involved in filmaking, things can go very, VERY badly. And from the sounds of it, there are going to be a lot of fingers in this pie. But even worse is:
Quote:
two male leads and a quartet of female action babes
