Episode 1
Wtf is this?! That was truly my first reaction.
Well, new school, new beginning.
So what? It's a about an ex fantasy cosplayer hiding his past.
Seems like he'll never get away from it..
The whole thing looks pretty childish.
Dropping this one.

Well, you better start grabbing some tissue and lotion!
As someone who has suffered from 8th Grader Syndrome and still show symptoms of it to this date, I find this show to be a mockery of my situation. 8th Grader Syndrome is a serious condition that leads to a delusional life style. It should not be joked about.
. . .
I kid, I kid. This is a lovely and fun show. I had a lot of chuckles from it. Jun Fukuyama as Togashi is perfect and awesome. I think I'll have a lot of fun with this show; it reminds me of my adolescence days spent pretending to be either Ultraman or a Power Ranger.

Heh. Joshiraku and Carnival Phantasm must've knocked you out cold, then.

Indeed they did. Tsuritama, too.
I just caught the second short, and am glad to see that she has a female friend who can help share the eye-rolling responsibilities with our lead.

I enjoyed it. Love the KyoAni look, of course, and the premise. Yuta no doubt will come to appreciate the power of imagination and the freedom that comes from not giving a toss what other people think.

ONA 2
So I caught the second Lite ONA (5 minute short), not sure but the uniform worn might indicate that it was while she was at her junior high. It seemed to detail Rikka starting her delusions of covering her body in various bandages as some type of seal or wound, going with left arm bandage, right arm sling, right eye patched. And a week later the top and bottom of her head bandaged, and a crutch acompaning likely leg bandages. A lecture from a teacher being the apparent reason she then settles on just one arm and an eye.
EDIT: Also found out that the encyclopedia has this series' English name down as "Regardless of My Adolescent Delusions of Grandeur, I Want a Date!". What a title.

Oh good I thought they got rid of the opening song I liked, but it turns out the lite version and the anime are coming out at the same time. I assumed the first 5 minute episode was just a preview like what they did with Kokoro Connect. Anyone know why they are coming out at the same time?

Episode 2
Best dream ever
This was definitely an amusing episode though with the cat (with the pink wings), the dream, the fight scenes, and the...

Is anybody else bothered by Shinka's hairpin? I looks like it was put in higher on her head then slipped down to where it is, like it's just hanging by a few hairs.
Also, how old are these kids supposed to be? The catch for the show is 'Eighth Grade Syndrome', but I dunno what that is in the Japanese school system. They look around 13-14 years old (as compared to the 16-18 years old of say, Haruhi Suzumiya).
Rikka especially acts and looks a lot younger then most of her peers.

Elementary school is grades 1-6, then its 3 years of middle school and 3 years of high school. So that would make them be 1st years in high school so they should be around 15. I don't think they look that young. I mean when I went to high school and I was a junior/senior, the freshmans and sophomores looked young as hell.

I suppose I meant 'looks young when compared to most other high-school shows'. And you're right, I remember back in my high school days there were a few kids that I always did a double-take at because I thought they were in the wrong school.

Yeah it bothers me too, at first I thought it was that she had messed up with it (looking in mirror) but she has kept it and no one has brought it up.
Episode 2
Definetly lots of fun, adding the pink wings to the not quite cute cat gives it a cute charm that i s likeable, kind of like looking at a pug. I get the distinct impression that Rikka's sister is an ex-weirdo, or currently a little funky herself, for one there is the fact she wears a colour. Actualy brings some kind of irony into her acts against Rikka, the fact she keeps up with her also seems a bit revealing, anyway red eyed black haired anime girls are great, *flops around as if struck ultimate ladle attack* my one weakness.
I am sure we can all agree that the Yuuta's youngest sister is adorable, and Tsuyuri is also moe and fun. Have to watch more.
KyoAni sure know how to use the animation budget. And I think I will end up with a seizure from the opening song.

I hardly every say things like this, as I hardly ever have so much confidence in anything TO say it, but...
KyoAni can do no wrong. Their two animes this year alone have been stellar to me (I still miss Hyouka) and their catalog before that is just amazing. Haruhi, K-ON, Full Metal Panic...all shows I've really enjoyed.
The simple fact alone that they made The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya a complete, true-to-source movie is enough for me to love them.
How does this relate to this show? Well...this looks like it's going to easily carry on their tradition of quality.
I love having a studio where when I see something new coming from them, I can make a fist and be assured that something awesome is coming.
Finally, I hope we see more of Yuuta's middle sister. And mother.
Hell, I like his whole family (with an absence of a father, hmmm).

I'm quoting this for its Ultimate Truth Value. I was thinking the same thing before I opened this thread this morning. I've always loved KyoAni's stuff, but with this show they have truly made me one of their Helpless Little Bitches. The sublime Hyouka softened me up and now this show provides the coup de grâce, as those Frenchie cheese-eating surrender monkeys like to say.
Love Eye Patch's sister. I wish I had an Anime Transmorgifier that could convert her into a real 3D woman so she could come into my life and sort me out once and for all.
This show is too adorable.
