As much as I like these books, I'm not going to argue with your review because you're absolutely right: the Vampire Hunter D novels are in no way fine literature. They're pure pulp fantasy, and vary in quality a lot, from the absolutely dreadful first couple of volumes to the actually pretty decent Journey to the North Sea - and even that one I'd likely give a B- at most. They're fun and they're quick reads that you're unlikely to read twice...but I'm still planning to read this one. 100% guilty pleasure on my part. |

A very fair review. I have stuck with these novels more out of familiarity with the style than any great intrinsic merit. As has been said, they are a decent, undemanding, one-time-only read, but even so I have struggled to complete the last 50 or so pages of this volume - and may have reached the limit of my tolerance.
And I don't know if it is just me, but am I alone in finding the illustrations messy and most off-putting? |

You have noticed the grades I've been giving these books for artistry, right? |

Yoshitaka Amano's work is definitely better in color. |

Aw, his ink work is quite often spectacular. Speaking of novels I want translated... Arslan Senki would be quite welcome. Heck, ALL of Yoshiki Tanaka's novel series PLEEEEEEEEEEASE. |
