4.) Many people dislike censorship in any form, and by censoring, you will upset a large percent of the community. Don't believe this, look at the overall reactions on this thread, and the recent comments on Crunchy Roll. Just the perception that (insert what ever here) acts as a censor tends to lead to bad publicity. When ever you see a case of censorship, in general there are a few comments justifying it, and then many comments of people who are unhappy.

I think it's irrelevant. Most of the complainers never had any real deal intention of subscribing to Crunchyroll and never had any real deal intention of buying the show to begin with. It's just people bitching and moaning and using this as an excuse for piracy.

It's the same as people who say crap like, "I don't buy anime because the opening song doesn't have bouncing letters like a fansub does."

It's clearly just an excuse. They could throw in bouncing letters (or uncensored versions) and people would just find some other lame excuse for not supporting the series.

So there's lots of peeing in this series, eh? I guess that takes the concept of "streaming" to a whole new level, eh?

*rimshot*

Oh, come on, that made you smile, just a bit. Admit it.

Censoring anime? I thought we had moved past this!

What the hell, Crunchyroll? Why do you have to be such pussies about Ju-den-Chan?

You're right! They should have went and aired an uncensored version and then used an 18+ age gate on said version. I officially have second thoughts about the reliability of CR! Crying or Very sad

Peeing Lolis Defense Force Team ACTIVATE

I've only seen the first episode where the only two characters that actually pee are at least designed older than I guess what one would call a typical loli (doesn't mean it's better or worse because of it. Incontinence is still incontinence Anime smile + sweatdrop ). Does that change in the next two episodes?

You'll have to excuse Zac. He's a big fan of lolita characters and likes to bring up the topic, even if it's not directly related to the show. What he probably meant to say was, "I wish this show had peeing lolis in it. Sad"

Well, I'm not even sure if I saw the uncensored version or not. What nudity and peeing I -did- see was hardly worth a censor though. Really disappointed to hear about CR doing this, either way. This isn't the 90s anymore.

I can't make a joke without someone being a dick about it, and hey, here's the proof!

"censored to reach a broader audience"? Why the hell would anyone but someone looking for ecchi stuff watch this show? Just by looking at the OP theme you'd know that this show is just for people who want to see scantily-clad ladies running around. It's as if the Disney channel took a softcore porn flick and cut out the naughty bits to air on their family-friendly channel so people can enjoy the "story". Makes no sense.

it seems people are making a big deal out of nothing, i mean this isn't 4kids level of editing this is just a bit of censorship of nudity.

i mean anyone who is pissed off not getting to see naked animated characters is just... well you know.

i mean i think this show has potential depending where they take the story and could stand on its own without clinging to nudity.

personally i like a bit of censorship sure an uncensored version would be nice but there is always a way to find those. i enjoy crunchyroll i like watching new animes as they air in japan and it is focused at a general audience not the people who walk into the buildings with no windows.

so censorship is bad but this is making a big deal out of nothing. now when crunchyroll starts cutting out scenes and replacing bullets with suction cups then we can complain.

who knows, if things take off maybe one day they will introduce an adult only section.

I have to say... come on, people, you're complaining about a U.S. distributor of public entertainment censoring scenes of females, regardless of age, being shown peeing themselves in cartoons? And this is billed as a "magical girl" series?

Maybe I'm too old, and the world has moved on. But back in my day, graphic depiction of actual urination by females on film would have definitely fallen into the mature category regardless of context, and Hell be frozen if anyone even considered putting it in a cartoon.

Now, I like ecchi, and I'll take freedom of expression over censorship any day. In between Texhnolyze and Gankutsuou, I'm there for Kanokon and Rosario. But there are reasonable limits to what should be broadcast publicly on a channel available to young children. The article makes clear that even in Japan, the uncensored series is being broadcast on cable, and that a censored version will be broadcast on public channels. The target audience for this show is not children by any stretch, nor any mainstream anime viewer. This is a quasi-hentai fetish show, complete with a nude loli and tentacles, aimed at the lowest rung of Japanese otaku on the ladder.

CR is doing what any other responsible business would do under the circumstances. And that's entirely aside from the fact that this is one of the worst first episodes I've seen in my two years of at least sampling virtually every new series released in Japan. The story is: stupid guy violently, forcefully and repeatedly strikes young girl with baseball bat and guitar without provocation; stupid arrogant a**hole guy won't listen to basic reason; and, young girl pisses herself routinely in full color.

There is one really valid point in all of this discussion: WTF is CR thinking even broadcasting this series? Because there is nothing whatsoever you could do to make it acceptable to the average U.S. viewer, and certainly not for kids, even "peeing" aside.

Really, if you're going to pick a cause against censorship, this show should not be on your list.

Edit: Typo

well i don't get the appeal of urination nor do i see the problem, do people pretend that girls are incapable of pissing themselves or something?

i also enjoy watching the guy beat the piss (sorry) out of these girls. no not for that reason but because in these types of series the guy usually gets the crap beaten out of him on a weekly basis and its just nice to see something different.

Boss: Good...good. Now tell me, what could we do to totally f.uck that up?

Employee: Well I suppose that we could censor something, thereby causing us to loose our credibility and everyone to rush back to piracy, but why on earth would...

Boss: Yeah, lets do that.

Employee: But sir!

Boss: Silence! I have spoken!

By the sound of it, this show is a piece of disgusting, lolicon garbage. However if it's so bloody bad they ought to just not stream it at all. Censoring it is just nonsensical and by far the stupidest thing they can do.

Let's be honest here. Even assuming the content was harmless, the distributor needs to make its money back on the series in Japan; so broadcasting it uncensored version would defeat the purpose of the R2 DVDs. Plus, the concept in general sounds like it wouldn't go down well with most CR viewers, anyway; so it's better for an already tough industry that they're only bored by it, rather than pissed off at it.
