I still really liked this volume, and I had to grin at the way things were resolved between Kurogane and Fai. Aside from signaling that Fai was getting to a better mental place, it probably relieved Kurogane more than if Fai had gone all mushy on him.
Also cool to see Watanuki. I was glad Syaoran showed up when he did, as we've had no indication in Holic that he would have been capable of dealing with the clone if he tried. He did more than right by Sakura for the period he stayed with her, and I don't think anyone could have expected more of him.
Next volume will be very telling. I think CLAMP has painted themselves into a bit of a corner by making Kurogane and Fai more fascinating to watch than the kids when the kids storyline was always going to be the climax, and with the exception of Fai telling the gang to start calling him Yui and (we can only hope) a glorious scene where Kurogane opens a can of whoop on Fei-Wang, there's probably not going to be much more to say about them. We'll see where this goes. |
