Justin: I know it's OT, but I hope you let us know your thoughts on Wild Things next ANNCast, since it might be up your alley. (J/K.) Anyway, unfortunately, I'm gonna have to agree with you on Mar, even though I liked Recca, and am starting to consider it better than YYH, as I finish both manga. BTW B'tX actually came out in the MID 90s.

Zac: Didn't see Ravemaster, other than clips and pics, but I'm still wondering how it lasted as long as it did in Japan. As for Beet, haven't seen the anime, but the manga's pretty fun. And yeah, Saint Seiya was so lame that one of the ADV guys who gave me a copy of one of the box sets trashed it. BTW, don't feel too bad about the South American-based hate mail, 'cus back in the IRC days, there was this Brazilian guy I used to chat with who thought it sucked, too.

Speaking of leaked scripts, any comments on Ben Ramsey intentionally leaking his draft in response to the negative reception of DB:E?

Robin: What do you think of Yuu Watase's "how to daw" thing in SB?

Tenchi: I'm more willing to let liberties be taken with AB than TF, since it's been rebooted at least two times so far, and it had to be updated for a different audience, anyway. But Bay just chose to f**k with G1 fans, which is why I loathe his versions even more than Beast Wars.

They were bashing Nyan Koi? As much as I like harem shows, the whole concept of granting wishes to cats seemed much too childish a concept to me. If it were about cats that turn into girls, then I might give it a second chance. I already am set for harem series this fall with 11eyes and Heaven's Lost Disciple.

The story about the person who expected Robin to look like Nina got me thinking about the effect that the Internet has on situations like this. Most online interactions these days are carried out via venues which permit you to select some sort of avatar image--message boards, blogs, messaging software, and such--and people tend to stick with the same ones for everything they use. The effect is that people associate the avatar with you since it's next to everything you say, such upon meeting "Internet people" in real life, people have a pre-conceived notion of "you" that is probably not your face. Maybe that's all that was going on here, since every Nina strip has that same thumbnail image of Nina on the front page to go with it.

On most places besides these forums, my avatar is either the pulsating toe from I'm Gonna Git You Sucka or the Slimby Special Picture, the picture so incredibly scary that the mere sight of it shocks your system into expelling excess fat from the pores of your skin. I'm pretty sure these are accurate online representations of me in real life.

I'm sure I'm the only one who cares, but the guys with black cloaks in Naruto are called Akatsuki. And Tetsuya Nomura is the best character designer ever.

That's all I have to say about that.

When I first heard the podcasts and Zac's voice in particular, I was totally surprised he wasn't using a rebreather or anything. Seriously, nothing like Darth Vader. Total letdown. I bet he doesn't even wear a mask in real life.

wooot!! wooot!!! my question got asked wooot!! *breathes*

ok, we'll get to that later. I have to just throw in that Twilight fans are not all dweebs, Zac. Maybe pre-movie they were but definitely not now. Cheerleaders where "i like boys who bite" shirts now and its cool. Even if its just trendy cool and after the third movie everyone cool will forget it existed but its not just dweebs. By the way, I hate twilight and was surprised that I didn't commit suicide by the end.

journalistic integrity ftw!...

Phoenix was added to my "anime to watch" list but I must say that I am sorely missing buried garbage. I cant help it, it's so funny the way Justin trashes the shows. I know watching crap is like crushing his soul right now but I still miss buried garbage.

Bamboo leaving is so sad. I cant blame her for it, I get it but I'll miss her. I am confused now is she retiring completely? because her last column said she has other stuff she'll be working on... so please explain.

It was nice hearing Robin again, I met her at NYAF 2008, ANN panel so the whole how she came to ANN Nina I knew but its good. I like her, she's funny. The artist alley, at least at NYAF, is really hit or miss. There was some really great original art and some horrible horrible horrible fan art. I saw that crap porn fan art that was like drawn with a sharpie from the corner store. For the rest of the fan art some might as well be print out of the official art and others are really really personal ideals. Some of them were awesome. There was a really good Raven from Teen Titans it was totally original and totally Raven at the same time. Yeah but the rest is like blatant copyright violations. It would be hilarious if someone just walked in one day and arrested them. Really I think its just as bad if not worse than illegal downloading and streaming. Especially considering you can buy the real thing like 3 feet away at nearly the same price or even get it for free.

Sorry I didn't have any hard hitting questions, ZAC! lol the second one was a random after thought and pooping candy and cinnamon rolls is crazy so yeah I was curious. First question, Paola is my favorite so I would like to see more happen with her and I'm looking forward to what will happen next.

now... back to the happy dancing! woot!! woot!!

Industry questions:

Is 4Kids officially "gone" now, or what? We heard they were up for sale, but I haven't heard anything else.

By my reckoning, these are the remaining anime companies:

FUNimation
Viz
Bandai

Neo-ADV (Section 23)
Manga Entertainment
Right Stuf

My own assessment of the situation was that Manga Entertainment was left to rot by Sony (after Anchor Bay bought Manga Entertainment and then Sony bought Anchor Bay)....most of their licenses have expired, and yes, sure, they got a Ghost in the Shell Blu Ray release for this Christmas, but *then what*? Manga Entertainment is a virtual non-entity. They're a ghost.

Right Stuf I thought of as more of a clearing house that somtimes makes small-scale niche releases of subtitled stuff.

Meanwhile, I was *flabbergasted* at Bandai's so-called "release schedule" for the 2009 Christmas shopping season: Code Geass R2 volume 3 (that's it, and no re-releases either)

I'm now of the belief that Bandai will not survive through the end of 2010: would you agree? And what of Manga Entertainment?

For God's sake, *Neo-ADV* has a better Christmas season release schedule than Bandai does.

I'd add Media Blasters (at least their Kitty Media label is still grabbing stuff) and perhaps AnimeEigo as well, though I don't think they've released anything since Yawara.

And I've been predicting that Bandai would fall eventually with their persistent delays in releases and inability to somehow sell DVDs that work a lot of the time.

Don't get me started on how they delayed Kurokami. That show needs to be released yesterday, goddamn it! What the hell's taking so long?

Also, why did Bandai let these defective DVDs slip through the gates? What happened to standards? What happened to quality control? Coupled with Viz's history of not putting sign subtitles on their DVDs (Don't tell us you can't do it, Viz, because that's a [expletive] lie!), either DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL! Evil or Very Mad

Is the above really it? I haven't really been paying much attention to the anime industry recently but just eight companies left, that is so not good.

So while listening to this episode, I came to the conclusion that Justin has such a deep voice and Zac has such a high voice that they could dub over their own yaoi and/or CLAMP anime. That would be boss.

The story about the person who expected Robin to look like Nina got me thinking

Now that I think about it, my avatar looks pretty similar to me. Take away the long purple hair, replace it with a short afro and you have what I would look like if I were an anime character. Hmmm, Chrono is a little on the light side, though. Picture him a little darker and there I am.

About this art of anime going south business, I never notice that kind of stuff. Sometimes I feel like the only person who doesn't care about art quality or animation. That's why I don't read reviews anymore (I actually do read ANN reviews and watch JO's video reviews, but I don't take them to heart), sometimes they talk too much about the art, animation, music, etc and it just turns me away. Anime, to me, is simply entertainment, not pieces of art. I know that's not the way fans are "supposed" to think, but I do. The way I rate a show is a scale of 1-10 on how much fun it was to watch and the "pretty stuff", as I like to call it, has never affected my enjoyment of a show.

Now, I've seen things like uneven boobs and misplaced noses, but I usually laugh it off because it only lasts for about two seconds. It is, however, rare for me to even notice those things. What Zac is talking about in Slayers, I have no idea. I didn't see any of that. I like to think I enjoy shows more than others because I don't care for the pretty stuff. This could be a case of ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

PS: Robin's the bomb.
