Isn't a bad business practice investing all this money into something so niche like this?

what's so niche about children's entertainment? I'm not familiar with the book, but seeing how its a picture book about adorable bears in a school, I'm pretty sure it's meant for kids.

anyway, movie sounds like a cute idea. I don't think I'll get anything out of this. but if I was a 5 year old Japanese girl I'd probably be bugging my parents about seeing it right about now.
