What a way to go,
as a student cartoonist of anime and manga I know he is going to be sued for sure for copyright breching.
I can never stup that low to use some one else work .
but he is really not planing for fanart.
I never do fanart I just make my own characters with my own titles
like Atomica, and Sapporobay etc etc
this kid will be in trouble big trouble.
he needs a manga study book in drawing his own characters,
At least my japanese cartoonist teacher teach me himself.

Most likely what gonna happen:

* Nick's book is permanently shelved.
* Gene pays off the lawyers and lawsuits.
* Nick is blacklisted from working in comics for a certain time/goes under a pseudonym after a few months.
* Any legal action is settled out of court and not discussed.

He can't use a pseudonym since his only selling point is being Gene Simmons' son. The guy isn't a professional because he's talented.

OTOH, considering Watsuki practically did the same thing with Marvel characters in RK, I'm surprised he's not being held up to a higher standard either.

He didn't copy any specific drawings though, and was pretty open in his series like Buso Renkin about his inspiration from US comics- a lot of the Homunculi were similar to X-men villans called Phalanx in design, but were all obviously original designs with enough differentiation in concept and origins to make them clearly different characters/ideas with a slight tip of the hat visually. It's a different thing than swiping [the usual term for lightbox abuse- google Greg Land or Rob Liefeld and swiping and you'll see what I mean]

They're only slightly different. Like they have different outfits and accessories, but if you're a Marvel geek, you know he's doing more than just referencing 'em. While it's true that Watsuki didn't actually copy the same poses and panels, his designs are still a little too close to tracing at times.
