Great, HG, in collaboration with Cartoon Network are about to further butcher what HG forgot to butcher when they hacked three poor, defenseless anime into Robotech.

Here's hoping they add in a fuzzy mascot character. EVERYTHING is better with a fuzzy mascot character.

Now...see....with ADV saying that they are talking to satellite companies and whatnot....that makes me even more suspicious that this Robot Week thing is mainly a big ad for The Anime Network....

"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." If TAN goes to cable/satellite....it could very well be considered an opponent to CN. So maybe ADV decided to strike up a deal with CN instead of going it alone.

I doubt it. If they were really interested in advertising Anime Network to Cartoon Network's audience, they could probably buy advertising just like anyone else. And I doubt too many people would be surprised by such advertising.

Besides, I expect that there are probably going to be a lot of people who will see Robot Week who probably won't have any clue that all of the anime titles are offered by the Anime Network, if they even know of the Anime Network's existance. Without some kind of advertising, I don't see how it could have very much of an impact.

That's the part we don't know....if there will be advertising for TAN during Robot Week or not. I mean, look at the info we have so far:

3 of the channel's premiere shows
ADV saying they are actively talking to various cable/satellite companies

Now you figure that Robot Week isn't for another 3 weeks. A lot can happen in three weeks. (Not to mention that ADV may have a few things under their belt that they just don't want to talk about right now.) ADV has already said that they would like to target TAN to people who haven't seen much anime...basically trying to draw in a bigger audience. Which would do that better? An ad on Cartoon Network or showing some previews of the actual content? Since a lot of "normal" people still see anime as cartoon porn, the channel would do a lot better by simply showing previews on CN to prove that anime isn't just naked chicks running around.

"One of the episodes to be aired is slightly different from its original form" .

Yeah just got info on this.

From Tommy Yune of Robotech.com
We've made some minor modifications to the episodes to be aired since there's no point in promoting comics adaptations from long-defunct Comico when the license now rests with DC Comics and Wildstorm. That's not the only change we made and we're in the process of organizing a little contest to reward some attentive folks who correctly identify it.

Also, we conferred with Cartoon Network regarding the best selection of episodes to air during this "Giant Robot"-themed event and we're pleased to confirm that at least one of the episodes will be from the New Generation. The first episode to air will be Macross Saga's "Boobytrap," of course!

Your going to see at least one episode from the third series of robotech that CN has never aired previously ^_^.

Skullone, you need to calm down, cheif.

Hell, I will be the first to admit Robotech is sometimes horribly painful to watch. But it still is nostoliga for some of us who first got into anime due to watching Robotech. There have been times when I wish HG would just come up with a new Dub for Macross and re-air it on Adult Swim or something. But let's face it, it is not going to happen. That's why they released the sub-only Macross DVD's (which one day I may decide to invest in)

Yes, nostalgia... You know, before I started to absolutely detest Robotech, I was still kinda nostalgic about it. Until I visited a friend of mine and watched the two Robotech tapes he had. One had the first three episodes in English, the other had the episodes where Rick, Lisa, Ben and Max were trapped in Breetai's ship, dubbed in Greek.

I'll never forget this traumatizing experience, for which I shall never forgive Carl Macek, HG and, of course, my friend, for putting that thing on the video.

What are everyone's opinions on the future of the series that are being shown on Giant Robot week? Will it all be just a big one-shot deal and nothing more, like Kids WB's Toonami crossover weeks (when DBZ and Sailor Moon etc were shown, not just when they had Toonami), or do you think CN might try to keep a few of the series around?

I initially leaned toward the former possibility, but the last couple of days I've started to wonder. Eva might not be a good candidate, but what about Nadesico or Dai Guard? I've only seen the trailer and read a couple of summaries for Dai Guard, but it seems pretty much right up Cartoon Network's alley.

It's true that it could be seen as a very personal form of competition for the Anime Channel, but it also COULD be used as a promotional tool of sorts. "Check out other episodes of Dai Guard, as well as other exciting anime from ADV Films on The Anime Channel!" I could see that.

Any thoughts?

Stop talking about Robotech and Macross in this thread in any way that is not directly relevant to Robot Week.

It's off topic and flame bait.

While Eva will probably never see a full release on a basic cable network (unless it's at 2 in the morning when kids aren't around to watch) I think Nadesico could be a goldmine for Cartoon Network. It's got it all, giant robots, comedy, romance, action, life & death, drama, an awsome story, and Gai Daigoji! It's really no different on a whole as anything else on Toonami, minimum edits would be needed. They *might* want to change the talent contest ep a bit, but it's not that bad, nothing kids aren't already exposed to watching MTV.

The plot thickens...

According to ADV at Katsucon, all the shows during Giant Robot Week will be aired uncut.
