B Gata H Kei - Yamada's First Time (TV) Genres: comedy, romance Themes: ecchi, perverted female character, school, school life, sex Plot Summary: Yamada is a high school student, and a virgin, who aspires to have 100 casual sex partners. Despite this, she soon finds herself targeting and pursuing only one boy. ---------------------------------- I'm up to episode 3 so far, but I'll keep this as short as possible and with as few spoilers as possible also. First impression: There's no way I'm watching this. To be honest, it sounded like a big steaming pile of doo-doo just waiting to destroy my day (I was actually tricked into watching it). The first episode was extremely awkward. Don't get me wrong, I love my fan service. But episode one was virtually an overdose of awkward moments that made me question why I was continuing to watch the show. I'm glad to see that her quest to screw 100 guys is gradually diminishing as the show progresses. Even as it does, the energy level doesn't deplete at all. Sure, there's not a lot going on to give the story depth, although we see (by ep 3 at least) the introduction of a sexy American transfer student and the glasses wearing booby bouncing childhood friend which gives me the impression there's room for growth somewhere in there. But I'm not really expecting it. I think this series is interesting because it's not really a reverse harem or a harem. It actually feels like a desperate teenage girl trying to get laid.... oh wait. That's pretty much all it's about.  Really though, it feels like I'm watching a PG-13 hentai.
I feel dirty watching it... *shudders* But I can't stop. Music is delightful and suits the well animated series. There's something fresh and original about this that keeps me watching. Maybe it's that I want to see if they actually show her getting what she wants... even though I know she will probably end up coming to some grand realization that she's madly in love with what's-his-face and doesn't feel like sex would be necessary right away but could really ruin their relationship. Or maybe they will go all the way... who knows. Just wanted to see how other people were reacting to the series as a whole and what they think about the characters. I personally can't think of any other non-hentai anime titles quite like this one to compare it to. Interesting but disturbing. |

This is probably the biggest surprise this season.
Last season, when BakaTest was coming out, I wrote it off as "generic" but it turned out to be hilarious and tons of fun. This one I wrote off as "stupid pandering crap." And then they played a random song about condoms and spit the milk out of my nose laughing. I really recommend this to comedy viewers. The humor isn't in Yamada acting slutty (though lord knows she's trying) but more in the fact that she has no idea what the hell she is doing. Try not to be scared by the premise and give it a shot. Also, surprisingly there is not that much fanservice. |

I think the fan service is blatant in episode 3. Also, the bathing suits and everything... yeah. Fan service galore.
But you are definitely right that it is pretty funny watching her fail at being slutty. |

I'm enjoying this series - I find it a nice, light, relaxing, enjoying watch with a decent amount of chuckles per episode. Because I don't belong to that uptight strain of anime fandom whose boxers/bloomers get in a twist any time fanservice/sexualized situations come on the screen, the premise didn't faze me in the slightest. I do hope they eventually explain why Little Suzy Supposed Hotpants decided she wanted 100 "sex friends" (when it is patently obvious that she is actually incredibly sexually repressed) but I won't cry a river if they don't.

I think she just wants to reach adulthood and has got it in her head that sex is a key component of that. I am also enjoying this show, it has that blatant, crude attempt at humour, and a somewhat original character, a girl that wants to be considered a slut but has no idea about how to go about it. I laughed more times in the first episode than I did for the whole Chu-Bra! series. I also like the fact the male lead is not (so much) of a blithering idiot, he actually wants to sleep with her, and noticed pretty quickly that she was jealous of the 'childhood friend' and he cleared the situation up. Now, if the male lead from Nyan-Koi had done that then the show would have greatly improved I reckon. |

Agreed. When I was a girl her age, the goal was getting kissed and maybe a little more - never dreaming of getting 100 sex buddies. That's just a little scary... I never thought about wanting to be an adult either though. I just kinda wanted to be flirty and do my own thing.
Same for me. Although, I'm not done watching Chu-Bra!. I've stalled on it since this one came barging into my daily routine.
No kidding. This is so refreshing. Maybe that's why I'm enjoying it so much. If only Kazehaya had the brains and hormones of this bland faced cherry boy, Kimi ni Todoke might have actually ended properly.
And, Blood-, this series totally suits your personality.  I hope you get tons of everything you've ever dreamed of from it. Enjoy your feast! omnomnomnom

Thanks, Bento-Box. Sadly, though, this show doesn't seem as hawny as last season's delightful Ladies vs. Butlers!
With respect to the lead character's motivation - I'm not sure I'm buying the "I want to be an adult and having sex is part of that" theory. If it was just a matter of having sex, why didn't she just set her goal of having sex with one guy? It is entirely possible the series will never offer a true explanation, but I find that anime is usually pretty good about giving relevant backstory. It wouldn't surprise me if around eppie 6 or 7 we get to the bottom of this "100 sex friends" thing. |

I agree. I went into this expecting LVB quaility hilarity. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much of anything yet...... looks like i'll need to resort to KissxSis for my absurd anime of the season quota.

I'm finding this series to be quite hilarious. Sigmund Freud would also have a field day with the opening sequence and all it's little sexual innuendo references.
Well, theoretically, if one is going to set an impossible goal for him or herself, why not a lofty impossible goal. For instance, why be just employed when you can be freakin' Scrooge McDuck's moneybin rich so you don't have to work at all.

Mixed feelings. She can be really grating at times. I find it funny how both of them are always thinking the opposite. While she's trying to sexually interact with him, he's just thinking that she must be bored by staying next to him, and never exactly realize that all she wants is to have his babies.

Well I don't know many series where the lead, who is a female, actually wants to have sex, and is continually thinking of doing so. It is not what I am used to, and I think at times I might have only been half watching becaus I am afraid of being considerd bad, well I do watch a majority of anime with my younger brother and sister, though I guess it is moot as I watched LvB with them. I guess there are some funny exchanges, my personal favourites being those with her friend, who either gets annoyed at lead having only H on her mind and such.
Favourite part in episode 2 was when she thought she was scoring (imbracing hug), only to find out she was torturing him. And favourite part in episode 3 was the flashback at the begining of the episode by the childhood friend, nice twist. |

Didn't watch it for some reason.... not really sure why. Maybe I should.
I think I'm only buying it because of the extreme nature. Like Kruszer mentioned...
It's anime, so I expect ridiculous things anyways. At one point, I did have a friend reading those girl porn books. She had pics of buff guys plaster all over her walls the way I have my anime stuff everywhere in my anime room. Even as I got older, I still felt disturbed by it. But there really are girls out there who just love men's bodies and want to have them. She was pretty open about it now that I think about it... but she was no where near the "100 sex buddies" thing which is just disturbing. I'm pretty sure if they do give a back story, it will be a completely stupid reason for her wanting to have that many love toys. As in, "when I was in the first grade, my puppy got run over by a car full of prostitutes and suddenly I wanted to have as much sex as possible".
Glad I'm not the only one giggling silently to myself. Man I feel dirty.
Even Qwaser was a little too much for me. There really is no way in HELL I'm watching that one. It really disturbs me in too many ways.
I find this humorous, but overdone. Although, again, the way they over exaggerate this side of the story/anime is what keeps it fresh for me. It's like I really don't know where it's gonna go because I feel like they're just throwing loops and curve balls everywhere. Although, I'm not entirely sure she wants to have his babies... seems like that would make her unlikely to reach her lofty goal. Unless she found guys into that kind of thing...
yeah.... this show is good stuffs. More please.

When this was first announced, I remember saying I hope someone streams it. My plea, however, went unnoticed and I'm stuck with no [legal] way of watching it (unless it somehow gets licensed). It just sounds so ridiculous that I can't help not want to watch it. It also reminds me of Futari H and that's one the funniest shows I've ever seen (one notch below Fumoffu and School Rumble).
Hell, I would seriously consider a sub-only release if Sentai grabbed it. |
