I'm so happy that Kuuchuu Buranko got some recognition; it was the best series from the 2009 fall season. I would love to read the books that the series was bassed on someday, or that some company would license them.

The "In the Pool" collection has been translated and published by Tuttle Shokai Inc back in 2006. 4925080946 is the ISBN.

Trapeze was hardly just a series for "young" adults. Of course, we know that animated series can't possibly have appeal to older adults, can they?

I'll look into Kūchū Buranko eventually, but because it was only a 2 hour commitment I decided to watch Oblivion Island already.

It is a very cool all-ages movie. At first the CGI is distracting but you get used to it and are able to get into the very classic type story of a girl going on a magical adventure in strange land.
Last week I saw Burton's Alice in Wonderland, this movie completely kicks its sorry 3-D butt. Although...it too probably would have looked good in 3-D.

Wow, first I'm in Jas Mart and I turn and notice that they have 'Oblivion Island' for rental and then I hear that it wins an award. That's great news. I really enjoyed this movie when it was being screened at the NYICFF. I regret not being able to take my niece to see it. But my mother won't watch anything subtitled. Because she doesn't like it and she assumes just because my niece might not be able to keep up it be a waste. of course the majority of people that I saw ranged from probably 6 to adult. Gee, do you think THEY could read the subs? NOOOOO. Did they watch it...regardless? YESSSS. But my niece seemed interested. But it was already too late and I bought the tickets for myself. Not to mention 10:30am is too early. Sadly there weren't any other viewings when it was here. For what was left were sold out.

I really wish that someone would license it for release here. And I really don't want to have to break down and by a BD player just to import it. Since the BD LE is region free but no "subs". But it comes with a nice 100-pg production booklet. And while I don't care about "dubs" I would want a nice dub share with my family. It's not a super duper spectacular film but it's a nice family oriented film that's worth seeing. But I bet if Europe gets a release there we won't get one.

*After my niece came to me with a drawing of the sheep from the flyer I gave her of the show, my mother finally gave in and decided to get involved with these types of events (next year) despite "subs" for her grand-daughter's sake. It's the 2nd time I tiredly explain a reason why we should. And what "I" witnessed. Smile
