While I'm still worried about the future of Viz hearing that they won't be dropping any series, at least for now, is something of a relief.

Wasn't that cancelled almost a year ago?
Surely not related to the current problem.

| So are they basically hinting that they'll continue to support their current licences, but they probably won't be picking up any new ones? I noticed they never said anything like "we have no plans to stop licencing new titles." |

| Unfortunately for business the fastest way to cut costs is to lay off employees. Hopefully VIZ pulls through and can eventually hire folks back. |

| Hope Viz can get over this. They have so many good titles. |

I don't think there's anyway they can continue releasing everything AND pick up new titles, at least not at the same rate. Which is a shame since Viz tends to pick up some really good stuff, though at the same time having less titles on the bookshelves will help alleviate the over saturation of the market. |

Viz just had to do what they think was right. I was getting scared thinking that they might drop the Case Closed manga series....
Glad they aren't closing or dropping any series! |

Thank you thank you thank you, honestly.
People may complain about you Viz, but you really are the best out there.
The only thing I ask for is to speed up the production of Eyeshield 21, Gintama and Hoshin Engi again... make it every other month like it used to be! |

Not to defend Viz, but the mangaka for Zatch Bell pulled his license from Shogakukan after some legal problems. So Viz had no choice in this matter cause the license was most likely void since it was negotiated through Shogakukan. |

Slowing down series is preferable to dropping them, IMO.
It's still too bad about some of the layoffs. I'd been in contact with one of the PR people. She was super awesome, and now she doesn't have a job! |

They actually said the opposite. It says, No Business Line Cancellations Planned. Planning to continue to publish existing product without licensing any new titles would be a plan to eventually cancel that business line.
A press release would say something about licensing of new titles when there are new licenses they are ready to announce.
On the other hand, since you never can tell what licenses you are going to get, even if you know which licenses you are trying to get, no press release would make any promises about the rate of licensing, since over-promising is bad strategy. |

Unfortunately, several businesses are discovering the financial benefits of doing the same amount of work with less employees. I first started noticing it in the early 1990s.
I just wish Viz had kept up with a quarterly release of MONSTER. Actions do speak louder than words. |

I am relieved by this news greatly. Several of my current faves (Fullmetal Alchemist, Kingyo Used Books, 20th Century Boys, Bokurano Ours) are handled by Viz, and any damage to those properties would've immensely saddened me.
However, this still isn't the best news in the world; after all, a bunch of people just lost their jobs, and are now without work in one of the worst economic periods in American history. My heart goes out to those poor souls.
Our manga wasn't affected, but those peoples' lives were. This makes me feel a small tinge of guilt. |

While I understand Wooga's pain, I didn't know about the legal problems of the situation. Is Zatch Bell in permanent limbo now? I'd kind of like to see (my library pick up) the last 8 volumes. |
