I think what bugs me, drawing parallels to K-On! as Theron did in the review, is when characters are basically as stupid as possible for the purpose of being cute. RIkka annoys me, but she's quite well-written and has a wounded, desperate quality, as well as being more indulgent and silly in her fantasies; whereas Dekomori seems relentlessly, proudly idiotic. The main cast of K-On! minus Azusa would be in the latter category.
Anyway, with regards to the review I grudgingly agree: it's a very well-done show. I think concept-wise it's not quite as "fresh" as the reviewer does, and I don't hold the same praise for the supporting cast, but the comedy is solid and the visuals great. And the main two are great, although more than you can tell from these six episodes.

REALLY wish Crunchyroll picked this up. Really wished so.

Not as much as I wished my TV didn't die today, but still, pretty close.

I really don't think "Ikeda Kazumi Character Designs" should count as a negative. I mean seriously.

KyoAni is really stepping up their games recently. First they do Hyouka, which in my opinion is like the best show ever, and now they do Chu2, which in my opinion is probably the best show of the season. I wonder if that new show "Tamako wahtever" will be as good as these two.

Don't forget Nichijou, which didn't sell because the BDs were massively overpriced, even for Japan... But they made it back with the Haruhi and K-ON movies. The last KyoAni work which wasn't anything special or noteworthy was Munto, which didn't receive much attention or praise anywhere.

Uhh...hate to break this to you, but this isn't an "expectation" issue, this is a "we know that SAO is going to dominate, just like it did at C82".

I let my bias take over my judgment. By "expect", I mean "hope". That show's really fallen off the map for me and it shows. At any rate, those other shows I mentioned should still be pretty big.

I watched the first episode of this on TAN, and I loved it. Which is I'm pissed that I can't watch anymore of it. Dammit.

At this point, you could subscribe for just one month ($7) and be able to watch the rest of the series, since the final episode streams in about a week and a half from now.

What's big in discussion or disc sales doesn't always translate to "domination of Comiket". OreImo, Madoka, Haganai, and SAO have all been major hits, just tons and tons of circles pumping material out. You mentioned TLRD, and while it may receive some, it's never that big of a presence, probably on par with something like the various combined Dragon Quests. Hidamari probably gets vastly more non-h than true h.

Other staples are things like PreCure, and of course Touhou is always number 1. Back to SAO, too many of my favorite artists are doing SAO books, which is a shame, because the only result will be glut of bland Asuna NTR.

Also TLRD is basically porn itself, and the more explicit a property is, the fewer h fanwork it tends to get. (general trend, not hard and fast rule)

And of course, like far, far too many westerners opining on Japanese fanworks, non-adult doujin products VASTLY outnumber the porn, but most of that is never scanned and distributed online.

For example, there is an absolutely amazing amount of completely worksafe Madoka Magica doujinshi, far more than the explicit works. Thankfully a good amount of those have been...made available, which is not the case for most properties.

On the other hand, C82 was basically "Lets see how many ways we can rape Asuna!" in its porn areas.

Maybe it's a matter of our sources, but I disagree with your last statement. Yes, Asuna was "the girl" of C82. But the range was pretty wide. I'd say of all the SAO doujinshis, maybe 20% were NTR.

Not the best show ever for me but certiantly one of my favorites of the year and this was a very nice follow-up

I may not particularly care for K-on but Kyo-ani certainly has a good set of other shows I enjoy and this year proved just that!

I'd like you to meet my friend, his name is "comedic exaggeration". I think you would do well to get to know him.

As soon as I watched the first episode (hell before I even finished the entire episode) I knew this one was going to be one of the best shows this season, at least in my book.

I'm more of a humor guy, but the drama that's been going on is still good enough to keep me interested in it till the end.
