They also missed out on Paranoia Agent. That would be awesome to see. |
Oh, yeah!!! I second that sentiment...I am constantly kicking myself for missing out on that one.
You know, Funi's panel just WOULD have to be at the same time as Bandai's...and then there is the Robotech panel. Is there such a thing as too much stuff?
Yeah...I didn't think so either...

I'm hoping Funi will rescue a few more things from Genon, but I doubt they'll get anything surprising...unless they picked up Fairy Tail
In terms of Viz's Shonen Jump panel I'm hoping for an actual release date for Psyren, and that they pick up Nura and Beelzebub. If they do any anime licenses(?) then they should pick up Reborn.

I don't know where you're picking up these signals, but according to things I've learned first hand, abandon all hope for a license rescue of Sailor Moon for the foreseeable future. There is a significant issue in Japan preventing further release of that property in the States. |
So in essence, this entire 20th Anniversary global revival campaign Toei has been doing is global except for the United States?
Not to mention that Moonchase blog indicated that Toei held a licensing expo here and Sailor Moon was one of the properties offered... though that article has since been deleted, by the webmaster herself apparently.

I would post more info if I could, but my source made me swear secrecy. I'll only say that I've yet to see a single fan post anywhere correctly guess where the problem is. Point is, don't waste your time and your tears hoping and guessing for Sailor Moon. Ain't gonna happen, unless the stars move.
Anyway, enough of that. This is an SDCC topic. Sorry for dragging us OT.

This may be naively unrealistic of me, BUT I REFUSE!!
Eh, the only news I'm gonna be paying attention for at Comicon this year is whatever Yen Press has going on, and if FUNi has any other rescues up its sleeve.

Disappointing, but not unexpected.
Anyhow, Turn A Gundam is looking like a strong possibility so I will have my eye on Bandai's panel...

The main thing I'll be looking for is to see if Funi announces a ballpark release date for the Tsubasa OAVs which have been confirmed are coming at some point - and, if we're on a roll, news that the rest of the xxxHOLiC franchise (or at least season 2 of the series) has been licensed.

I totally agree with you on that one. Depending on what your tastes on pop culture are here, there are many conflicts of time. In the end you just pick what panel you like, or can get into, and enjoy it from there.
The Best and Worst of Manga should be a fun panel. ANN's Gia Manry hosted it last year and it was quite enjoyable, followed by the Bandai panel afterwords. (funny how some memories just stick with ya)

That's what I'm looking forward to, and possibly anything more from Tokyopop and Viz (more specificially in the manga department or if they will pick up the Tegami Bachi anime). I don't expect much from Funimation until Otakon, especially after their announcements at AX, so I'll be surprised if they come out with anything spectacular.

Will Stan Lee be getting a little scooter to ride on throughout the convention?
He's all over the place: American comics, manga and anime.
I want more info on the State of the Animation Industry panel. Konetzko & DiMartino, the A:TLA creators, have hinted at a major announcement at SDCC. This panel is just as likely as any to have that announcement (the only Avatar: The Last Airbender panel at SDCC seems to be an unofficial fan panel, but they might make the announcement there, too).
In other awesome American animated series news: I spotted panels for Adult Swim (which might have an anime announcement) and The Venture Brothers on the SDCC site. I'd mourn the fact that I live on the East Coast, but I know the convention is a crowded mess and no one is assured a seat at any panel unless they run it, so I'm happy to catch all the news at home.
Oh, and Shonen Jump guys, if you're reading this:
Bleach is due for a speed-up (not that I want one personally, but still), Sket Dance looks like a wonderful title for you to pick up, and Nora: The Cronicles of Devildom has a sequel. Get on that.
Also, Viz, I know you're cutting corners, but some of us really miss the Shojo Beat panel...

I think some of the hardcore Nora fans (like myself) already knew about the sequel (were just hoping for it to get licensed and released!!! ) YAY! Bleach is finally getting a speed-up! (Not like I will really support it. I'm still working on my Bleach manga collection). Bleach will finally be close to the Japanese release! (which is a great thing!).

It seems like you really want the Tegami Bachi Anime series to get licensed.

It's Naoko Takeuchi, isn't it?

No, I have no idea whether or not Bleach will be sped up. I just think it should happen, now that the latest episodes of the anime are being legally streamed. Speed-ups may be great for continuity, but for budget concious collectors, libraries and even Viz itself, speed-ups are a huge financial risk, so I have no clue whether or not Viz will do it again (and, frankly, I don't think Bleach's plot warrants it).
I'm also a big fan of Nora, so I want to see the sequel, but I don't know how well the first series sold, so who knows?
As for Shonen Jump vs. Shonen Jum Advanced: it doesn't matter how a title was marketed in Japan, it seems Viz has its own standards for how to market SJ titles here. Gintama is published in the original SJ in Japan, but its "Advanced" in the U.S. Which is frusterating. It might be more popular if it were just regular SJ & got a shot in the magazine again.

Oh! (Thanks for clearing the Bleach speed-up thing up for me! ^^).
I really want the sequel badly! I just used my b-day money monday to buy Nora Volume 8 (now I officially have volumes 1 - 9! ). I think Nora might of sold well. I know there was a lot of us on youtube who was supporting Nora (and we was also recommending it to people).
Ah. Yeah, Viz has it's own standards. I can't really say I like all the SJ Advance titles. I'm more of a SJ fan.
