This is somewhat shocking. Though such sudden and disheartening news has yet to leave its full impact, might I express my sorrow over this untimely death, my sympathy to his friends and family, and my gratitude to the director himself for the efforts he has given us.

A horrible loss, and as said before, he died way too young. I've only actually seen Tokyo Godfathers out of his works, but it's an amazing film I must own.

What?! I didn't even know he was sick. This is really sad, and I think I'll be in a bit of shock today over this sudden passing. The animation world has now lost a major gem.

Whoa, was not expecting to read that. Dammit, that man was a genius and I am really going to miss his works. Paranoia Agent remains one of my favorites still. I must watch again now... RIP Satoshi Sad

Came so out of the blue. Haven't really come to grips with it yet... Aside from losing his talent, it's sad to see him go away at such a young age (and apparently to cancer?).

I had to read it twice because I couldn't believe it at first considering he was still in his forties. His movies were the only anime movies that I consistently enjoyed. Very sad.

F---. It looks like this is getting confirmed. I am heart broken. A friend texted me about it and it hit like a ton of bricks.

Not only the anime community should be at a loss today, but all of cinema. The man was an amazing director, period. That he used animation, and used the format to its amazing full effect, is just a plus for animation fans.

Damn it. I've teared up a bit over this. Such a loss especially considering how young he was and how many more films would have been in his future.

(And reading this post and a prior one in the anime forum thread... I've moved from denial to anger...)

I'm having a bit of a hard time getting over the shock; this is a huge loss for the anime industry and probably film making in general.

It's a very unfortunate passing. I hadn't seen much of his work, but I did enjoy Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent. Pretty much everything he's done is loved. If only he stayed here longer, he could have done so much more.

I'll be listening to Maromi's theme on a loop today.
