BD, enjoy the eye porn in all of it's glory! Wink

I think Nagi no Asukara is one of the few shows where BD actually makes a noticeable difference.

Is the DVD set for Chunibyo -- Heart Throb now available for pre-order the only Sentai release planned or likely? Is there any information on this?
I liked the stupidly big SE box for the first season, and was hoping for a uniform BD/DVD/book set to put beside it, or fit in the same box in place of the knick-knacks.

@ailblentyn

Not that I have seen. Sentai is apparently not saying. I expect it depends on how well the collector's edition of season one sold. If it did well there will probably be a repeat. If not, no Bluray. Mad

Thanks, Alan. I'll be holding off on that pre-order, then.
I do love the show (I'm rewatching the first season discs now), but would rather buy it once.

Since I've recently had a little time to resume my search for a few Buried Treasures as well as actually enjoy some of the anime I own, I've been wanting to buy this on a disc. I found it fascinating, inspirational and educational all at once. Fascinating for what is possible with just a light source, a few sheets of paper and a pencil. Well all of that along with a video camera. Inspirational to see that kids "get it" just as well if not better than adults. Especially if you're open to communicating with them. Educational since it just doesn't tell me, but actually shows me a little of what this Director is about. Really happy I got to see it and would like to own a copy so I can view it where and whenever.

Quickly now, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is on the mega deal for a mere $10! But I keep seeing it compared to Grave of the Fireflies, which I absolutely hate, in fact, loathe (not a fan of its manipulative nature and lack of real characters, honestly, Anime Abandon sums up much of my feelings of dislike of this movie, though I disagree on some things, of course. I don't think it's even worse seeing once).
But, is the similarity in them both being disaster porn and does Tokyo Magnitude actually develop characters and not just vague constructs meant to stand in for something generic? Because I also see it compared to AnoHana, which, from my understanding, it clearly not disaster porn.

I don't know, the "emotional manipulations" of Grave of the Fireflies didn't bother me given the horrific historical situation it covered and how it was the author's way of apologizing to his sister. That made it more genuine. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, on the other hand, frustrated me in its final third with its emotional manipulations and the contrived situation it created. Saying more than that would be a spoiler.

But for $10? I think it's worth giving it a shot. I still liked the first half at least. And I didn't dislike everything about the second half. The situation lowered by overall opinion of the show, but it's still worth seeing once I feel.

Assuming my employment situation changes down the line, I'm interested in possibly snagging up Nobunagun, Aldnoah Zero and Tokyo Ravens.

If Ponycan USA didn't have it so overpriced, I'd probably consider Yuki Yuna is a Hero as well.

eh, just skip it already, it's just gonna be a disaster for you. It is disaster porn. There wasn't anything I could relate to on any level there. Never known trauma or loss or the destruction of my town (I quit watching the news). So yeah it was like science fiction. Another world away. But sci-fi porn just doesn't have that ring to it. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue there.

Just stick with the "well written, thought provoking, story porn" stuff instead. Those are the essential ones to get in the Chinese cartoon 'verse.

and while we're at, AnoHana? that's just more Emotional Porn. Who needs that?

I find that if I simply add "porn" to the end of everything it's a great way to save my time and money.

Apparently it's not cool to just take a chance and enjoy a show for what it is? First it has to be researched upon, completely broken down, oh so carefully analyzed, compared, and then reviews of it by the long time experts taken into consideration. Which is completely understandable if we're spending money.

Just seems to me that there's a tipping point there somewhere. How caught up in the finding does one have to get before one actually "finds" anything?

It really is a shame that we can't rent anime nowadays.

My apologies for all the sarcasm. This wasn't directed entirely at you, just fandom in general.

So, Im gonna pick up Fate Unlimited Blade Works for sure. Need to complete my collection.

Ill probably end up getting Durarara X2 down the line as well, even though Im disappointed with the price compared to the first season.

Heavily thinking on FMA CE. Im still on the fence, but I do like those CE's. Eh, but it might be better on my wallet to get the cheaper one.

No Game no Life being on sale right now might end up pushing me to buy the LE of that. I mean, 22 bucks off. Its a nice discount.

Space Dandy Season 1 is gonna be another purchase I get using some amazon credit.

Then Im still patiently waiting for DBZkai to go on sale, and for the Buu saga to get released. Definitly need to own that. Maybe I should get GT for good measure too. hmmmm.

Thats not everything, but thats whats on my radar right now.

I'm back in this forum to update my Gundam DVD collection.

I originally wanted to get Gundam 00 either 14 individual disks or the 7 X 2 disk set. However, I've been horrified by the price escalation of Gundam 00 Anime Legends sets that I've lost appetite for 00 altogether. The Amazon prices are insane. Something is wrong. Surprised

I am now considering Gundam Turn A because that is what's available and licensed.

I'm almost done updating my collection as I've acquired Unicorn, MS08th team and Zeta new translations. I never planned on getting Turn A but avoid 00. This is sad because Setsuna is one of my favorite Gundam meisters. Perhaps, I should get the 7 X 2 disk set like what I planned to do and not let the Anime Legends prices anger me. The 7 X 2 disk set is still reasonably priced. May be, I should leave this for later. Should I let 00 Setsuna go? Sigh.

There always the chance that it will get license and re-released in a few years. At this point, I would wait. I bought FMA, .hack series, Cowboy Bebop all on DVD thinking there wouldnt be Blu Ray releases, and now I have to rebuy them. Namely the .hack series, which cost me a lot and now are going for pennies on ebay.

The something that's wrong is that Bandai Entertainment USA is dead (since February of 2012) and all their titles are out of print and rare by now. Rare = Expensive. Everyone who wants them either has them or is hoarding them and price gouging people who don't. However a lot of their former catalog has been rescued by other companies. The Gundam franchise now belongs to Rightstuf/Nozomi due to a partnership with Sunrise. If you wait long enough there will be a reasonably priced rerelease, Gundam 00 was one of the more popular shows from the franchise after all.

Kruszer: Thanks for confirming that Bandai USA has ceased business, that truth has not sunk in with me. I don't believe it. I need confirmation despite reading about it all over the web.

I downsized my DVD collection 5-6 years ago at great financial loss. I sold, gave away and discarded disks but retained Region 1 DVDs from Bandai/Sunrise titles, Rurouni Kenshin and the 12 Kingdoms. Not much. The experience of downsizing is life changing, I now acquire only titles I really want to keep, so the resale price is irrelevant but I am unwilling to pay high prices for new DVDs be they Blu-Ray or otherwise. You cannot blame me for being whiny about inflated prices after the downsizing trauma. Confused

The logical thing to do is to let 00 go but Setsuna is my 3rd favorite protagonist after Kamille (Zeta) and Shiro Amada (MS 08th Team). I am careless not to monitor the market for 00. This is ALL MY FAULT. Should I let Setsuna go??? Can't believe this is happening.

I don't know Gundam Turn A, never considered buying but since it's available at this time when I happen to be updating my Gundam titles, Turn A fits.

I have done the same thing, though it was like year or two ago. I got rid of my Gundam 00 "parts" and bought the two Anime Legends sets to replace them as part of a huge endeavor to reclaim shelf space by buying more compact version of stuff I really wanted to keep and getting rid of shows I didn't like or probably wouldn't rewatch. The abandoned Bandai titles were still priced normally. If you look at who is actually selling those overpriced things now it probably isn't actually Amazon who's trying to rip you off, it'll say something like "Fullfilled by randomPerson238" or something meaning Amazon's stock is all gone and they're relying on third party sellers.
