Well if you're looking for reasons, nothing is uber concrete here. If you have the money and you're seriously considering it because you love the series and want it in all its HD glory, then this is the way to go for now.
Pros: May or may not ever be an R1 release, but the R1 release might be an upscale to discourage reverse imports if it does come about. Then there's the fact that it's a collector's box set, complete with a reasonable number of special features, an amazing art book, the soundtrack, and a sturdy art box. Also, it's being imported by rightstuf, so if you buy it from them you're going to save on import and handling fees that would have added on a considerable amount to an imported copy (plus this is a limited import, once it runs out, they're not likely to ever get more). If it doesn't bother you that it has no dub but comes with a subbed track as well as being a simultaneous release with the Japanese copy, then you really ought to just go for it. The nail in the coffin for me was the recent passing of the Tokyo Youth Bill. With that bill in place as of April and June, it could get considerably more difficult to obtain copies of this show (rape scene in movie 3 falls under it, as well as the suicides in movie 1). I may be wrong, but I certainly hope I am that this gets an R1 release because it is more than deserving of making an impact in North America.
Cons: If they license it down the line (nothing is certain, but as of now it looks dubious) then you're boned six ways to Sunday. It's got a hefty price tag attached. There's no dub track. If women find out about the purchase, chances are they're going to think you're insane xD.
Is that sufficient? Those reasons spoke to me personally but I could understand if they don't ring as true with others.

Very few anime today are slam-dunk no-risk dubbing decisions. By the time that this is likely to be open for an R1 DVD license, even fewer are likely to be.
One factor that could tilt it toward being cheaper to license as a dub would be if a license for a hybrid DVD and a dub-only BD were available for less than a hybrid DVD/BD license because of the reduced risk of back importation ~ connoisseurs would be less interested in a DVD release because of the loss of visual quality, and of course a Japanese market does not want to buy a dub-only BD.

yeah hey thanks a lot for taking the time to write out the pros and cons clearly and concisely. I was 90% convinced to purchase it, but now i'm pretty much convinced.
Really appreciate it Akawoa
I wouldn't be surprised if you worked for Aniplex lol
one thing that you said that i think makes a lot of sense here is the new japan youth bill. Japan has been cracking on the H-stuff and overall pornography in the country for quite some time now, so it definitely makes sense if this series becomes taboo in the future, which in turn would naturally increase the demand + price of the boxset. Plus that speech about the goodies in the set will pretty much make any TM fan come in their pants.
The thing that adds a sense of urgency to the matter is the limited quantities statement. Something tells me that Aniplex is for real about that. Which mean if i want to get it, then i'll have to pre-order it soon doesn't it?
but yeah, thanks again for your valuable input

Lol I wish I worked for them, that would be an amazing job xDDD. Well I'm glad I could help you weigh the decision best , I wasn't sold until the whole youth bill thing came out and I'm an enormous TM fan myself . The way Aniplex has been talking about the import though, I wouldn't be surprised if they have under two hundred copies (maybe less) and this could be the only shipment they send over. I spent a few hours weighing everything before I committed to pre-order personally, but I think it will all be worth it when the mail comes in February and I get to pick up the epic box set with the hefty art book playing the soundtrack in the background on my stereo ^_-. If you're sold I suggest pre-ordering immediately, since the supply is limited. Fortunately, rightstuf doesn't charge until they ship and orders can be canceled anytime before shipment, so if a change of heart occurs, there's no fallout .
But yeah, glad I could help again, a part of me thinks I'm insane for spending that much, but another part of me realizes that an opportunity like this may not come along again, well ever (it's a gamble, but I love the series enough to roll the dice here =3). Might have to revise my con list about the ladies thing, if you find a woman who loves Type Moon she'd probably flip out if she saw the epic of the box set xDDDDD

Lol I went with economy as well xD. Rightstuf's economy shipping is priority IIRC, so I wouldn't worry, not to mention they ship everything in sturdy boxes. If it comes with nary a scratch then you can send it back and they'll replace it . I figure they'll mail them out as soon as they get them, so we'll probably get them before the "official" release date on their website ;D

but i think even reg packages have tracking numbers right?
i think i might call them to ask. By your statement of sturdy boxes, i assume u've ordered from them before?
we'll get them b4 feb. 8th?

Ah you're right, but yes they provide tracking numbers for all purchases. I've been buying almost exclusively from them for a year now (I buy a lot of anime too =D) and have never had any problems with them. They pack larger orders in a decent sized box with some shipping stuffing so it doesn't flail around in there . Since this box set is pretty large it should be in one of those boxes =3.
I can't guarantee we'll get it early, but from past experience with rightstuf, they almost always ship pre-orders whenever they get the shipment, so it often ends up getting there as much as two weeks to a few days early (example ordered Higurashi set that came out on like April 14th and got it March 28th).
But yeah, I have a lot of faith in them, they're extremely efficient and they have a great system locked down =3. I always feel more comfortable buying from them than I do anyone else. Make sure you check back on your order ("where's my stuf" on their home page) as January approaches, they email you when they ship it but usually they update the page as much as 24 hours before the email goes out. If you have any other questions I'm more than willing to answer x3
EDIT: Interesting, according to rightstuf.com's home page, Garden of Sinners blu-ray box was one of the top selling blu-ray items last week slated roughly at number 9 it would appear (considering holiday sales prices for many blu-ray titles were up last week that's very surprising O_o)

nice nice, then i don't have to worry about the package arriving all banged up
man, ur really knowledgeable on this stuff lol
whoa, if KnK was one of the best selling titles, then that means despite the hefty price tag, people still wanted it. Which also means that IF they decide to stop making it due to the bill, demand would rise. I think there's always going to be people missing out on this order.

Yes, there've been many packages I've gotten from Rightstuf and thought, "Isn't this a bit overpackaged?? I mean, for just a 8 dollar volume of manga..." They really take safe packaging seriously.

Have you ever used Shopping Mall Japan? They will take an A4 book and hide it in a large box full of chippings like a lucky dip.
