My totals for December:

Anime: $382.70
Manga: $111.86

Total: $494.56

My totals for 2011:

Anime: $2784.57
Manga: $791.22
Misc: $25.00

Total: $3600.79

Don't remember what the misc was, but it was in my books as an anime or manga expense, so there it is.

The 2011 totals essentially only reflect purchases starting in July - there were almost none in the first half of the year (being unemployed sucks).

I haven't done a detailed breakdown by retailer/source but RACS and TRSI were the biggest beneficiaries, followed by Amazon, eBay, and misc others.

I've already started on this year, so it will be interesting to see how it ends up.

I finally completed my 2011 tally. I have been dreading entering my RightStuf receipts from December in to my expenses spreadsheet.

My anime expenses for 2011 total about $3,000, up about $500 from 2010. A key difference: In 2010, I cut off anime purchases for that year in September. In 2011, I gave in to RightStuf's annual 12+ Days of Christmas sale. I spent about $1,000 in December alone because of that sale. (There were some great deals, so I can't regret any purchases.)

My goal for 2012 is to cut my expenses in half. If I budget $1,500 for the year, that gives me $125 a month for anime. Looking at what I will spend when my preorders ship (ef~memories/melodies, Princess Jellyfish, Madoka Magica LEs), that number seems about right.

January, 2012

*le sigh*

After a very expensive 2011, I had been looking forward to a substantially cheaper 2012. I'm not off to a great start:

Grand Total: $2,113.29

Anime: $1,888.92 (29.5 TV, 20 OVA, 13 movies, 3 vols.)
Manga: $48.17 (5 vols + some manga comics)
Figures: $80 (5)
Anime Con: $47.12 (advance registration for Anime North)
Shipping: $49.08 (6 packages)

Lost $27.02 to currency difference

So obviously private sales were my downfall this month. I came across an OOP treasure trove at the end of December and took three bites out of it as outlined in this post. I'm extremely happy with what I got and don't regret the outlay at all. If I had let those titles go, I know I would have kicked myself until the end of time, but yeah, it would have been nice if I could have racked up a few low-expenditure months first.

The five figures for $80 was a private sale: I got a Shinobu from Ninja Nonsense, a couple of ToHeart2 gals, Takase Mizuki from Comic Party and Moetan's Pastel Ink. All were in mint condition (to the point that two of them hadn't even been opened yet).

Quite the expensive month there Blood. Jan was $243.30 which included the few pre-orders that I had already, what was left of the 13 Days sale at TRSI orders that shipped early last month and a figurine that I had ordered last year. I only spent $.24 more than I did Jan last year.

EDIT: since I am on my spending embargo expect for pre-orders I can forsee the next few months been smaller spending amounts unless the yen to USD exchange rate gets worse.

I'm moving in about a month and don't want to deal with having to contact a bunch of retailers to change any preorders/backorders to a new address, so my spending is pretty limited right now.

January 2012
Anime: $4.99 (January's portion of my annually-renewing CR account)
Manga: $56.47
Other: $70.25 (Utena artbook and Mawaru Penguindrum OST)

Total: $131.71

Thank goodness for Blood-. If not for him, I might think I have a spending problem. As it was, I spent a total of $1,335.43 in January.

Anime: $510.77
Manga: $38.16
Figures: $786.50

All that I spent on figures was only for 10 of them too. I miss the good old days of 100+ yen per dollar Sad

Gosh Blood-, those numbers are kind of frightening.... You know there are 11 more months in a year, right? Razz

January was a standard month on my part, since my only purchase was an JP import from last week:

January
Anime: 180$ (shipping incl.)
CDN Taxes: 30$

The next two months should be much more expensive for me though. Not only do I have a couple of pre-orders I'm expecting to ship in that period, but there's also the final two volumes of Hanasaku Iroha I will need to pre-order at some point....

Thank god I was able to stay away from Fate/Zero up until now... I don't want to be tempted! So I won't watch a second of it until it goes OOP, that's how I roll. Cool

I forgot about this because I've been too busy being upset over my PSG figures not shipping because they keep getting delayed.

Good month, though still more than I want. Two imports (Denpa teki and Time of Eve), three recent releases (ef, Hetalia and BGHK), and then a bunch of older stuff. I don't know what my favorite purchase was, though. BGHK was hilarious, ef had a really nice dub and was just as good as I remember, Voogie's Angel was really good, but Time of Eve was also fantastic. It's a hard choice, so I'll skip it for this month and say they were all winners.

Totals for January:

Anime: $518.42

Manga: $42.57

Total: $560.99

And that's pretty much going to be it for awhile. Until I'm working again it's going to be difficult to justify the expense. There will be a few exceptions: The Madoka part one release later this month, I won't miss that, and some manga volumes also due for release later this this month. Other that though, probably not so much.

Due to some January releases being shifted to February due to delays...my January 2012 anime expense was $1000 (includes shipping)

That's spread between HMV, Amiami and Hobby Search.

Last day of Feb so it is time for the totals.

Feb Total:
254.49

The biggest par of this was the three figurine orders for Feb. That easily ate up $152 if you take the shipping into consideration (I've started going with SAL on almost all of my orders except for the one coming in April since I need to get that before May 4th).

Everything else was split between Getting the Gundam 00 AL sets, Red Garden SAVE, Nanaka 6/17 from ebay and singing up for the elite service with Funimation.

So far the YTD brings me to 497.79.

Blood, you should do a Collection Spotlight. I'm quite curious about your setup since you buy a lot of stuff, but you never complain about shelf space.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Those black bars are hiding the eroge I bought. Even I'm uncomfortable giving out that kind of stuff.

But yea, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money this month; double what I want stick to. I'm not off to a good start this year with almost $700 spent already. Including all of my preorders through September, I've already got $1700 tied up, and that's mostly just figures. Boy, I sure do hope the dollar keeps getting stronger to the yen; I wouldn't mind that 100:1 older fans talk about all the time. Hell, I'll take 90:1 since that knocks off about $7 with what we have now.
