I'm a single homeowner with no children, and I earn a fair wage. I do not deficit spend, in other words I cover all my expenditures with what's in the bank. The negative, if you will, is that I have no plans for the future. Retirement? No idea what that concept is. If I were to be injured and unable to work, I'd likely be in trouble. I have no problem affording everything today. I just don't have much of a cushion in case something bad happened tomorrow.

Sadly, Sailor S, the fact that you merely have no cushion still puts you ahead of most North Americans, who, like me, are in various stages of indebtness (and I'm not even counting mortgages in the category of debt even though they are). My debt load is far from marvelous, but it is manageable. Currently.

I'm married without children and we both make healthy salaries (mine's about to go down with a job switch, but his covers all bills plus a little extra, so it's not a big deal). So I pay for everything as it comes in without using credit cards.

That said, I still try to limit myself to about $300 per month (for all pleasure expenditures--not just anime/manga-related). It helps to make purchases a bit more special and carefully selected.

My wife and I are retired. No children and our income is adaquate. My hobby spending is not high enough to impact our income and is significently less than my wife's spending on dolls.

I haven't posted any of this years expenses yet. I ought to tally up and report.

@Blood and luffy,

I can actually see where both of you are coming from. Although luffy seems to be missing Blood's point entirely. Which is somewhat amusing, nothing to get so worked up about, Blood.

Eh, I just have no patience with idiots or slimeballs and luffy is being both. You have no problem understanding my point, nor would anyone else I suspect. Yet luffy doesn't or is pretending not to. I hate that kind of essentially dishonest/incredibly stupid person.

I simply don't understand. I'm piss poor at relating emotionally through message boards. I've also never had it out of anyone like you do. Money comes and goes. As long as I get a product that makes me happy everything is peachy. You might think I'm an idiot for spending whatever amount on a single show but I'm fine. It's not hurting you or me or anyone here.

I think this was the issue. Wasn't really paying attention the other day.

I am employed, but barely and I live with my partner in a rented place. No kids to deal with though. I try and limit myself, but I keep finding new pretties to buy!

Praise Jesus. I think you are finally starting to understand. My issue was NEVER about what you or anyone else spends on anime. My issue ALWAYS was about the fact that you chose to illustrate your enthusiasm for a show by citing Aniplex (AND DON'T YOU DARE REPEAT, "but... but... I was talking about Aniplex of Japan, not Aniplex of America..." - IRRELEVANT) and a $400 figure which had the absolutely unavoidable result of reminding me of ANIPLEX OF AMERICA'S pricing strategy which, I assume you have learned by now, I don't like.

My initial reaction to your post was, no doubt, somewhat overblown, but I assure you my anger after that stemmed from what seems then and now like a perverse refusal on your part to understand what was and is an incredibly simple point. I'm sure you are as tired of this topic as I am, so if you feel the burning need to have the final word, then fill your boots, but I'm done with it.

My budgeted monthly expenses are like this, mostly for DVDs but about 5% goes to manga. Well, I say manga but it's really only Negima:

One new release around 40 dollars or so.

Budget anime releases based on the overtime I worked for that week. Curiously, this far exceeds the first category each month. Why I'm working so hard, I don't know but I didn't think it was for anime.

Total expenses per month, around 200. Though I did get a bonus in March so I had a bit more to spend this month.

For March:
Hand Maid May 1-3 (*)
Shattered Angels
RomeoXJuliet
Elfen Lied
Bubblegum Crisis 2040
Strike Witches
Jubei Chan *
Jubei Chan 2 *
Saber Marionette J *
UFO Valkyrie Maiden 3, 4 *
Midori Days *
Soultaker *
Fantastic Children

Except for the ones I bought at *Rightstuf, all DVD sets were around 20 dollars or much less. With the new DVD/BD of Okami-San budgeted for March.

And a new DVD shelf for some reason. Don't know why that was part of my anime budget.

Interesting. I've gone back and tabulated my expenses for 2012, and I'm a bit surprised. I actually thought I had spent more.

Jan
Figures: $101
DVDs: $111
Total: $212

Feb
Figures: $141
DVDs: $0
Total: $141

Mar
Figures: $289
DVDs: $64
Total: $353

Apr
Figures: $112
DVDs: $0
Total: $112

Grand Total: $818

I haven't broke $1000 yet, which surprised me.

This will break next week, as I'm sure the bill to my two figures currently at HS will come in.

@ Meso: that's always a pleasant surprise when your mental tally is actually higher than your real tally. That never happens to me. If I try to keep a rough mental tally in my head, reality is always higher. I think it's called "denial."

Figured I would rack up my expenses from January and February as well. Would be kind of interesting to see how much I spend on anime throughout this year. As noted in my last post, the prices I list also include shipping.

January
Ramen Fighter Miki = $14.75
Ghost Hunt (SAVE edition) = $20.47
Redline = $21.37
Geneshaft = $13.92
Zone of the Enders Complete Series set = $33.66
Megazone 23 = $16.96

Total: $121.13

February
Peach Girl (Viridian Collection set) = $12.37
Nerima Daikon Brothers (SAVE edition) = $10.93
Strawberry Panic = $31.20
Barefoot Gen movies = $14.72
Patlabor: The New Files = $62.97
Argentosoma = $18.99
They Were Eleven = $12.97
Broken Blade Collection = $30.57

Total: $194.72

March Total: $261.18

YTD Total: $577.03

Not too bad for the year thus far, though my spending appears to be noticeably greater by each month since either I snagged pre-orders or OOP anime.

Well, I do still have pre-orders, which I tabulate in the cranium. I've about $700 in pre-ordered figures just waiting to grace my shelves.

The biggest change is DVDs. I can't recall the last year to which I didn't buy DVDs in a month, and I've racked up two so far in 2012.
