Wow! Now that's big!
Well, if anybody deserves it Shoutaro Ishimori does. A lot can be owed to him as well. But that is a big set. I'm curious to see what it'll look like. |

| Good grief and God himself. 500 Volumes? While I respect the accomplishments of manga creators, isn't that an awful lot per volume and at nearly $500 per release as well. I don't know much about manga fans in Japan but who has $450 per set, in Japan, to be able to spend that much money on this collection? |

Think about it. US$450 / 41 volumes (one set) comes out at around $11 a volume. That's not a bad price.
If I could, I'd buy the entire Cyborg 009 set... that's pretty much the only one of Ishinomori's works that I know of and love. |

It is oddly expensive per volume, a regular paperback manga costs about $5 in Japan. This is obviously going to be higher quality material, but to pay twice the price seems a bit much to pay for the extra quality.
But $500 for 10,000 pages of manga isn't bad.

| Think of this as a "limited edition" collection. People are willing to pay more per an item of something when it's rare. |

Jesus.
And I thought JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was long at 80 volumes, or Hajime no Ippo at 73 volumes.
500 just dwarfs those.
Amazing. |

I'm guessing they'll do more than just straight re-releases of the original volumes. Maybe higher quality paper and printing and maybe some extras like liner notes and some Ishinomori bios to offset the higher price?

| Wow. I have to read it to Ishinomori, turning out that amount of material in his lifetime. Makes me want to experience more of his work. I've read the first major story arc of Cyborg 009 (where it was supposed to have originally ended) and -loved- it, but asides from that, I haven't read much from him. |

Well, this certainly was the misleading title to end all misleading titles. I was originally thinking something like Britannica, not this gigundous compilation of Ishinomori's work.
Oh, and I'd prefer the compilation. |

LEEROOOOOOY JENKINS!!
seriously, ishinomori was one of the legends out there and i'm a fan of his work, so this looks appealing. it's just a shame that his stuff (kamen rider, cyborg 009, kikaider, etc.) didn't become more popular here in north america... |

Yeah, 009 is a classic, and the recent anime remake didn't get the recognition it deserved (mainly due to the first five or six episodes being pretty weak compared to the rest.)
I also would like to see the original manga versions of Kikaider (come to think of it, that anime didn't get enough respect either) Kamen Rider, and GoRanger (AKA Power Rangers.)
But that set is waaaaaaay out of my budget, so hopefully someone will pick those up for US release and spread the Ishinomori love. |

Yeah, I was thinking that too.
Except I'd rather an encyclopedia.
