Maybe they should put in new series that aren't 20+ years old.

They are? They just added One-Punch Man last week, and that's pretty new.

The guy's at Viz were just on ANNCast and stated that all the new announcements would be "new titles" (specifically, not stuff like Gintama, Beelzebub, etc.) -- things that are fairly new to WSJ in Japan - so this is a bit of a surprise.

Dragon Ball Z will bring in even more people. I'm glad Viz is doing this.

This is... kind of new. Most of these color-ized pages have never been seen before (at least outside of Japan).
Also, will Viz do a volume release for this? That I would like to see.

I'm not super stoked that we're getting another run of Dragon Ball Z, as my interest in DBZ has waned quite a bit. Now if it was Dragon Ball...

But that being said... I've never actually read DBZ the Manga in its entirety. So... there is that.

Thank god for digital or I would not be reading Jump.

Its a freaking Dollar.

You can't get that price point in print. Also, who wants to sit on a weekly growing pile of 200 page phone books?

Also if it was in print it wouldn't be weekly.

Also its a dollar.

Nice! Although of course looking forward/hoping for print editions of the color version in the future as well.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a damn about Dragonball Z? I don't think it's that great tbh.

Its really not. Dragon Ball starts off as a really fun adventure story. But eventually devolves into a series of mindless fighting bouts.

Basically once the story stops being about scouring the landscape to collect Dragon Balls... it just gets boring.

The first few arcs of the original Dragon Ball are EPIC. But once the second World Martial Arts Championship happens it loses everything that made it memorable.

Really? Because a lot of that scouring the world for the Dragon Balls is pretty dull to me. I think there's more complexity in later arcs, though it does drag quite a bit. The tournaments are really the only worthwhile parts of early Dragon Ball.

Personally my favorite part of the series is the Red Ribbon Army Arc in Dragon Ball, just having 1 kid take down a whole army, thats just.... Priceless!!! Laughing

That'll do Goku, that'll do.

An even bigger question is if these chapters (and a new volume release) will be uncut Dragonball.

I was actually considering becoming a Shonen Jump Alpha subscriber, but I'm not so sure as I have most of the 'Viz Big' releases of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z as it is. I know that the series has served to be Viz's cash cow for some time now, so I certainly appreciate that, but I'm not sure that I would be able to justify signing up for this new digital service to read something that I already have access to in print form.

By the way, I was looking at the issues lined up for this year's Free Comic Book Day, and I saw a combined Dragon Ball and Rurouni Kenshin give away amongst the various offerings. I wonder if that has anything to do with Viz trying to promote Shonen Jump Alpha.
