It looks if nothing else a visual feast... hopefully the rest will keep up...
...when I saw the wrightup with the word koi, I thought of every trope where that is misinterpreted as carp, because I am easily amused. I am also hoping this isn't too heavy. Longing is a painful place for old men. |

Why KanaHana and her breathy performance? She's an ill fit to this sort of role. Still, the film looks gorgeous and that'll be all the persuasion I need to see it.

Feel like I can already see the ending  but of course that would only makes me want to watch the movie more.
And from the credits, it seems that the song used is an old song? I also curious about the setting. 5 cm/s is good because of the nostalgia but I want to see how Shinkai handle a story in today's setting (with all the convenient technology and social networks that, to me, can ruin many romantic plot )

Oh it's simple, just have their cellphones die. And then have their online social networking profiles be erased, all of them. But really, the entire problem of instantaneous long-distance communication is solved as long as you want to reach out to that person. |

Kinda surprised that no one has noted here yet that this is a tale of attraction between a 15 year-old boy and 27 year-old woman. (EDIT: Ah, Kougeru edited in commentary on this matter while I was writing this message.)
Even considering that this attraction is supposed to be geared toward the "lonely sadness" definition of koi (though I'd be surprised if it *didn't* go a more traditionally romantic route later on in the film).... Can I say whoa-dang?

Now would you people be complaining if it was a 15 yo girl and a 27 yo man?
The trailer looks nice. Lots of feet and ankles for those that are attracted to that sort of thing.

I think a lot of people besides me would be complaining if that was the case. Just because the genders are flipped doesn't make the scenario less fetish fuel, IMO. In fiction like this, it always depends on the scenario and the way they present the relationship. Sometimes it works out ok. It's just not my favorite plot device, and I'll leave it at that. |
